Toymaker Cites Hazards From Lead Paint And Magnets; Warns More Recalls Possible
- When are the Feds going to get involved in this? Come on. If this isn't a case where the walefare of the American people is at stake, than what is? Point being: Bush...do your job and get American inpsectors in China to make sure the products are safe for us. The time is now!! Or, is it that you and your family have so much money tied up with chinese imports that stopping that flow of faulty goods will cost too much for you and carl and dick etc?

I think your ideas are great for LEGAL immigrants. The field workers are hard working individuals. If they were legal, they would at least have to get the minimum wage. I don't care if onions are 3#@$20.
I'll pay it if it represents the true wage necessary to get the job done. I just don't want the illegals here, conspiring with scumbag employeres, destroying the wage system. No illegals, no pickers for less that $20/hr. How about that for starters. Let's start paying based on what American citizens will do the job for. Deport the illegals now. Things will improve quickly. - Reply to this comment

- GAGirl8: You worry about the cost of a head of lettuce while the real costs, housing, healthcare, childcare, education continue to soar. These are the big costs that truly matter, and they continue to get out of reach for more and more people. Add to this the stagnant or lowered real wages Americans make, adjusted to inflation. Before the influx of foreign labor America did just fine, thank you.

- Don't blame China. Mattel asks for cheap products they get cheap products. They should have quality control in the factories. Now ask yourself where do recalled toys end up? http://www.youpolls.com/details.asp?pid=322 Other children will be hurt. Oh yes

- We should be building child safe toys with US labor here in America. The illusion of 'cheaper' has cost Mattel BIG $$ time. As a parent I'd pay double to know my child was playing with a safe toy made in American. US jobs are lost to low quality factories overseas where inferior materials are used to build products often using slave or prison labor.

- I know it doesn't take the majority of Americans to do field work, but no one is going to pay you $400.00 for just one bed either.Get real onions would go up to about $20.00 each 3lb bag. That's not what I am tring to prove. At least give them an hourly rate plus the $40 dollars for each bed. And if more Americans would try for these kinds of jobs and get in then strike until changes are made. Then maybe things will turn around. But sitting around crying about something and not moving to help better the situation then things will always be the same.

- Oh, and all of you who assume an American-made product would certainly and inherently be better, remember that it took Japanese automobile manufacturers to teach us how to make *American* cars which no longer fall apart at or before 100,000 miles.

- That's my point, it is just a chain going on and on.But so many act as if the Mexicans are doing so much to hurt this country. I agree if they can't pay taxes( because I have to and don't complain, because my children get a better education from it)or abide by our laws then revoke their citezenship or resident cards and send them back. They are our neighbors we should want to friends. You never know when we will need them. I don't mind if they live here but they also need to go by the same laws that I have to.Even if they do not agree with it,at least respect it. I would go to mexico and not respect their laws. All I am saying is they are not tring to hurt us, they are helping us. And if the employers would supply the things needed their work output would be better. You can't judge something from just what you hear. Get out and go to a field where they are working and watch. We just need to open our eyes a little wider to see the whole picture.Get out and look for ourselves. And be more compassionate to others and their feelings.

- Too many of the commentators here obviously haven't paid very close attention while shopping at Wal-Mart or any other retailer.
You have little or no choice for a large number of products. Many are made *only* in China. You'll simply not find an America-manufactured version. It's buy Chinese or buy nothing at all.
And should some of you quickly jump on the "nothing at all" bandwagon [before thinking], be prepared to do without no small number of both necessities and disposable income items you now take for granted. - Reply to this comment
- How dare consumers get angry when defective products paid for by their hard earned money hamper their health? This recall will hurt profits!
Of course, kill off the consumers and there'll be nobody left to buy the goods. - Reply to this comment

It doesn't take a majority of Americans to do field work. Do you think the maority of Americans all agree on any one job?
Instead of $40 per bed, how about $400? That would do th e job fo rme. - Reply to this comment

Did you ever think about who the indians took this land from? Who was here before they crossed the land bridge? How many people did they kill for this land? - Reply to this comment
- Anyway's we are all aliens to this country, who killed for it's land. Look what we did to the indians, pushed them on reservations when it should be us.But that's going to far back.I don't care how much you pay me, I'm not getting in any field @ 100 degree heat and cut onions. Or in 30 to 50 degree cold to plant them. You only get paid by the bed($40each). One bed is 4 rows and it usually is about 1|4 of a mile long. It would take me two days to finish. And they all live together because it is usually a bunch of men or th are all family anyways. Is that not how it used to be here in America. The parents of the son lives in the home to help with the children while the parents worked. And maybe another brohter or sister and their family lived there also. This helped with buying food and childcare. And you were sure you parents were taken care of.Don't go critizing people until you know the whole story, any way that's GODS job not ours.(To Judge People) I am not saying that all Americans would not do the field work, but a majority would'nt. Let's get real. This nation has become dependant on others doing the work for them...

- okey, so mattel is recalling most if not all of their toys, why then there are dora, diego, polly pocket, etc toys that are on the shelves and on sale at toys are us? did they not hear the recall or they still trying to sell those stuff? where does mcdonalds get their made in china toys for their happy meals? how about six flags? the toys at their arcade or game areas? all of those are made in china (sesame characters, etc). there are made in china toys every where. who regulates those? what will the government do about that? will they stop importation of all chinese made toys? i watch from yahoo video that even some toothpaste made in china are tainted (it shows specifically the brand colgate). so ban all chinese made products? so what's left?
