You must understand that it never was Osama%u2019s culture that drives grown men, women and children to kill infidels indiscriminately. It is the perversion of Islam that fueled the likes of Osama. That made men strap bombs on themselves and detonate it. It was Islam that handed Atta to Osama%u2019s crusade. We were on a runaway effort to rid of this threat by going after Osama bin Laden. But the problem is not Osama..because we can kill Osama but rest assure that there would be another Osama to take his place. We need to deal with what is feeding Osama. It has a name, its called RADICAL ISLAM. This ideology, just like any ideology, does not respect borders and ethnic lines. To say that we can get rid of terrorism by turning Afghanistan into a glass parking lot is moot. However at that time, Saddam was the most committed and most prepared to provide terrorists with whatever they need under his disposal. Saddam and Al queda is NOT doing this BECAUSE THEY WANT TO BE FRIEND BUT BECAUSE THEY SHARE A COMMON ENEMY..which is our freedom and way of life. We can get rid of Osama OR Bush but the problem will prevail..as past history had shown us. We need to destabilize these extremist long enough to plant the seed of peace. - Reply to this comment

When 9/11 occurred, the Taliban tried to rationalize the event and refused to turn over Osama bin Ladin. This was the main reason for going into Afghanista, to disrupt the Taliban's insurgency operations and training camps. I was 100% for this effort, and the U.S. should have stayed the course until the job was finished. But the Bush administration saw Iraq as a menance, and decided to build a case for war against them. To me, it was good riddance to Saddam who was placed there by the U.S., and went terribly awry. BUT, it took away from finishing the job.
To answer your question, the West with all its moles, warts, and the like--is the more enlightened society, even though we have had or strains and growth pains. The cultural manifestations of the West will prevail. - Reply to this comment
