Russia has been supplying arms to our enemies like Iran and Syria, so the cold war never really ended. Putin's recent reforms have been consolidating his powers slowly turning Russia into an autocracy.

Its a foolish and dangerous game Putin is playing-causing a problem where there isn't one. In fact, Bush is right, democratic countries should be uniting against common enemies, particularily Islamic states and groups - Posted by prowest210 at 11:49 AM : Jun 05, 2007

Great post. Nice to read thoughtful comments for a change, rather than the usual barrage of tirades and insults :)

If this is the case, we are the stupid ones. After all with our military strung out and bogged down in Iraq- we are in no position to rattle a saber.

Heating up things between us a Russia right now is very stupid regardless of whether the Russian issue is something we should be involved with- which is another topic open to vigorous debate.

Ok, let's try to make this easier for the CONS to understand.

Let's say oh... that.. RUSSIA wants to build a missle defense system in CANADA to "protect the US" from Missles from Iran (even though Irani missiles cannot reach us). What do you think the white house would do? EMBRACE IT? oh H*LL NO!

Second, what gives the president of the UNITED STATES the RIGHT to demand that all other countries be DEMOCRACIES? I admit, Democracy is the way to go, but it is NOT our right to impose ANYTHING on another nation unless there's some kind of mass genocide or something... and in that case, the WORLD community should be united on fighting that.

Tell me Mister President, who died and made you GOD? Oh yes... the republiCONs who worship you.

Obviously a bird of Bushit's feather. Bushit has done his best to "derail democracy" in the US, removing the writ of habeus corpus that has existed in law since the Magna Carta, spying on US citizens without warrants, abusing even the pathetically minimal judicial oversight, having the FBI see what books you get from the library, torturing prisoners--just like America's own KGB.

Of course, Bushit famously looked into Putin's eyes and saw a man he could trust.

Yeh--just like Stalin trusted Hitler. Two thieves and liars. I don't think Putin is a big a personal coward as Bush is, tho'.

Good ole Bush, sticking his foot in his mouth again!

This man is a complete disaster in both foreign policy and domestic policies. He is preaching democracy to Russia, when he has no idea what democracy is!!! His idea of democracy is "do what I want, when I want"

Jesus, he is an embarressment to this country.

Why is Bush pushing Democracy overseas and chipping away at it here in the United States?

"You go, Dubya! Kick a little sand in that KGB commie b*astard's face! The man finally shows us he has a set of stones - amazing! Now if you can just seal our US/Mexican border, you will rise 50% in the polls and save the republican party."-- Posted by infidel_us

Save the republican party from what? Their situation is not recoverable in the short term.

One can only hope, that the absolute power which will be afforded to the democrats in 2008 will not be misused to the same extent as under the current administration.

What you should be afraid of is that this president's foreign policy doesn't set off an opportunistic military action *against* us based on his antagonistic actions combined with our military being pinned down in Iraq.

It's all about Unintended Consequences. I hope our pigeons are not coming home to roost.

Exerpt from presidential speech:

"my fellow Americans,...foreign policy is not a matter of great interest in the debates in the barbershops and the cafes of America, on the plant floors and at the bowling alleys. But there are times -- there are times when only America can make the difference between war and peace, between freedom and repression, between life and death.

We cannot save all the world's children, but we can save many of them. We cannot become the world's policeman, but where our values and our interests are at stake, and where we can make a difference, we must act and we must lead. That is our job and we are better, stronger and safer because we are doing it.

Old or young, healthy as a horse or a person with a disability that hadn't kept you down, man or woman, Native American, native born, immigrant, straight or [not] -- whatever the test ought to be I believe in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence.

I believe in religious liberty. I believe in freedom of speech. I believe in working hard and playing by the rules. "

Was the president that said this Bush? No.

Who is derailing democracy really?
