Forgive all the repeating of my posts, please

toldyouso,

I believe different, and that's ok. We don't have to agree. The bible says many things, as a previous post, look at Luke 14:26, it says in order to be a disciple you must "hate" (keyword) your entire family including yourself.

I put faith in god, not in a book.

My questions are sincere, and I appreciate the suggestted reading. Might I suggest you look on Barnes and Noble.com or Amazon.com for a book titled "A Word of Encouragement". My faith is strong, but I don't believe god has a specific purpose for our lives. We have free will, and I firmly believe that the free will of all of mankind is the cause of suffering and not god. I cannot believe that god would intend for the children at St. Jude to be going through what they go through while a murder or rapist across town is as healthy as he can be. I believe how we deal with our lives on earth will result in how we are judged when we die. If god controls our lives here, sickness or health, why would there be a need for judgement?

For those who like to quote the Bible, look at Luke, chapter 14 verse 26. "If any man come to me and hate not his father and mother, and wife, and children and brethren and sisters, yea his own life also, he cannot be my disciple". Are we supposed to believe the 12 disciples hated their families? Remember 4 of the 12 disciples are from the same family.

"Why Satan?"
This is a testing ground and every human in it is like a rat in a maze. The idea is to take immortal souls, place them in an environment that is finite, remove all memory or knowledge from any other time, and see if they can remember deep within themselves --their connection to a supreme being. Give them tests that will challenge their current rationale and the era they live in, give them death, disease, pestilence and horror, and see if they will turn to the indefinable something...that will set them apart, that will PROVE they have a deep connection unbroken by time--to the CREATOR. Why bother? Because God knows the body and all its ills are temporary and really nothing but a blip in the eternal life of each soul (what is 7 days or 70 years to a being that can never die?) So people who get upset over a war, or the death of a child or evil--miss the larger picture---this is all temporary and the body is just a vehicle--it is NOT the soul---consider it like a car--good and necessary to get around on earth..But..what is the point? Well....God is looking for a few good men, who prove that no matter the incongruity, the need to suspend rational thought, the turmoil, or even the hopelessness--he wants to select the ones who can rise above the temporary test --to a higher plain? Is this you? Or do you succumb to the illusions in the Matrix and give it more credibility and reality than it really has?

God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. God the Father, Jesus the Son who sits at the right hand of God and the Holy Spirit that dwells within all of us.

Not quite. The bible says the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in an unclean temple. Most of people do not have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them--and quite a few self proclaimed Christians don't either--but ....many don't know anything is amiss, having never really had a personal relationship with God or the Holy Spirit.

Opfor311,

I am sincere in my questions and I greatly appreciate the suggestions for reading. Might I suggest to you that you look on barnesandnoble.com or Amazon.com for a book titled "A Word of Encouragement" perhaps it will shed some light.

I am at peace with god and my belief and I sincerely thank you for your concern. My questions are not only about me and my life. I wonder when people say there is a purpose, why are there children in St. Jude's suffering with cancer and their parents hurting so much, yet a murder or thief never even have a bad cold? Why is a child born into this world with a brain tumor and only live 6 months when there is a rapist across town healthy as he can be? I just don't believe that the sickness and suffering of the people on earth is a result of some plan by god. I don't believe god intends on anybody suffering. I believe it is our free will, the free will of all humans, that causes the suffering and it is up to each one of us to live and deal with life the best we can. I believe that how we live and deal with our lives is what we will be judged on when that day comes.

HiYa' Mike, Sorry for your physical problems. I understand your confusion about Gods will. I wish I could be the one to tell you what his will is for you but I cannot. Its none of 'my' business. I will pray for understanding of what he wants for you. The only thing I can tell you about God is that he put his words down so man could read them. Since then man has attempted to rephrase his word to their own use. My knowledge of God came from him though reading and study and prayer. His message to me is simple, "Love him and accept his Sons sacrifice, love and care for my neighbor as much as 'God' cares for me. Beyond that there are no other things I have to do. Look for God and Gods love in everything. Thats it but those two things will keep you very busy.

What does any of these remarks have the slightest thing to do with the incredible news that this great historic tomb has been found ? Sometimes I think people post things just to see their names in print , even though they make little or no sense. Sorry that's my opinion .

mikealford3,

If you are sincere in your questioning about pain, I'd recommend that you read C. S. Lewis's books "The Problem of Pain" and " A Grief Observed".

Another author who may be able to help you come to a better understanding of pain and faith is Joni Erickson Tada.

Well God has many ways of punishing these ifidel types. There's the very popular smite. There's is pesulence, disease, fire & brimstone, lightning etc. My favorite is just the good, old-fashioned, killer smite. You know, kinda like crushing an ant. There's nothing that conveys the love of God like a good smite.

Keep them coming.

I've always been a fan of the lightening smite. I mean god is such a terrible shot with those that he hasn't hit my atheist as*s yet! Come on big guy! You can do it! SMITE ME!!!

(waiting)

(and waiting)

(still waiting)

(yawn)

Maybe he's too busy telling Georgie what the next war strategy is going to be? I mean after all, Georgie said god told him to invade Iraq and God sure wouldn't leave the little punk hanging....would he?

jennmarie620:

Just to clear up a few statements that were made earlier:

The word in the original Hebrew in Isaiah 7:14 is alamot, which is defined as follows:

"alamot ("%u05E2%u05DC%u05DE%u05D5%u05EA") is a Hebrew feminine noun, for a girl who has reached puberty but is still under the shielding protection of her family; she is a young, marriageable (i.e. unmarried) girl. In Bibles, almah is typically translated as virgin, maiden, young woman, damsel or girl."

It is not the word for innocent. The word in the Septuegent and the New Testament for citations of Isaiah 7:14 is parthenos which is defined as maid or virgin. It is the word from which we get parthenogenesis (virgin birth).

The arguement in the bast has been if the New Testament writers had pushed the meaning from a young woman (not innocent) to a virgin. However there are several other Koine greek terms that could have been used instead, and the Jewish authors of the Septuegent used this word as well.

By the way, Isaiah 7:14 is an example of a prophesy which had two fullfillments, on in Isaiah's lifetime, and a second in the birth of Christ.

HopeinGod, I respect your faith and your beliefs very much. I respect everyone's right to believe what he or she wishes to believe. I certainly don't believe the same about the holy trinity as most christians do. I believe the trinity to be 3 individuals. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. God the Father, Jesus the Son who sits at the right hand of God and the Holy Spirit that dwells within all of us.

My problem with religion is people use it for convience. I lost my left leg in 1984, after being hit by a pick-up truck. The leg laid some 30 feet away from me in the highway. I was 14 years old and everybody in the church told me God had a reason for it. In 2001 I was diagnosed with brain cancer, I was 31 and again the people in church said God had a reason. To say there is reason implies God intends me to hurt. I cannot accept that. It's not just me, millions of people around the world suffer. If the suffering of humans has a purpose from god, why seek help for the suffering? If there is intent or purpose for suffering, wouldn't it be a sin to seek help. Wouldn't doctors who treat people for illness be sinning? If there is a purpose for suffering, why do people become sad when a child gets sick? If that's god's will why don't we celebrate when someone is sick, because that's god's will and we should be happy that his will has been done.

The convenient thing about the Bible is that since it's all made up then it's more than easy to make up arguments in its favor.
So if I say ancient Egyptians didn't ever mention having Jews as slaves although they had a very detailed list of slaves and what their tasks were, Bible thumpers can counteract by saying something silly like, "The Egyptians didn't like Jews so they tried to erase every trace of them, blah, blah, blah!"
As if the Egyptians just loved their other slaves so much as to make mention of them.
It's so ridiculous and childish. How about when god supposedly drowned the entire world with a flood knowing full well all Satan had to do was wait for the world to populate again so he can tempt people into comitting sins, which is why god drowned everyone in the first place! If god is serious about getting the world rid of sinners take out Satan for crying out loud!
What in the world is god doing drowing people including millions of innocent children but won't kill the source of the problem which is Satan?
Bible thumpers then say we "need" Satan to test us.
So if we "need" Satan to test us why drown everyone? Aren't we supposed to be judged after having had a chance to live our lives?
And why did Jesus come so late in the Bible story to set everyone straight? How come god didn't tell everyone from the beginning what the rules are? Why wait 2 or 3 thousand years until he sent his "final" word with Jesus?
Bible thumpers just keep making up answers. Pathetic!

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they be punished?

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.
