- I know what you mean. I just some of our politicians were as politically savvy as him. It'd sure be nice to have an intelligent person in the White House after the last 6 years of Bozo the clown and his circus of fools.

Once again, we agree (as usual).
I live in a rural part of Johnson County (adjacent to Dallas and Fort Worth) Texas.
My neighbors are mostly rednecks, bible thumping Christian Bush supporters. Johnson County is most widely known for prosecuting a woman for selling "s e x toys" (d i l d o e s, lingery, etc.) to other women in the privacy of her own home.
Out of respect for my neighbors' viewpoints, I normally restrain my remarks regarding Bush to "he's the worst president in US history" and leave it at that.
But, today, while at a local store, I uncharacteristically found myself ranting and raving about the Bush administration, and, the corruption and incompetence of the entire administration.
Oddly enough, those nearby agreed with me.
Perhaps there is yet hope. - Reply to this comment
- I never singled out Muslims. And the beauty of America is that it is a secular society. I don't buy into any of your stilted views of American culture. Why would you even assume I am a Christian???? The separation of church and state is just a sign of an advanced civilisation... you can't continue killing people just because they don't beliveve in the same higher power. All religions preach tolerance and if you go against the rules, the allmighty rules, no matter how they fall, you are going to get caught, burned, and thats all you need to know...

- Face it, Ahmadinejad just played Bush like a well tuned violin. I'm no big fan of his, but in this case he showed himself to be many times the politician and leader then Bush. Compared to him Bush comes off as even more of a joke.

We agree.
It was a "dog and pony show" from the very beginning.
And, Ahmadinejab carried it off to perfection. He made Bush and Blair appear to be warmongering savages (which isn't hard to do) while demonstrating himself to be compassionate and merciful (whether he is or not is irrelevant).
I actually laughed when I heard him request Blair not punish the soldiers. - Reply to this comment
- Come to think of it ever since Ahmadinejad was elected I can't think of a single incident where he DIDN'T play Bush like a violin and made him look foolish. Of course it's breathtakingly easy to make Bush look like an idiot since he does most of the work for you, but still......

- Iran is a sovereign nation and as such has as much right to develop whatever weapons she so chooses as any other nation.
If the goal is a "nuclear free" Middle East, we should start with the nation in the Middle East that currently has nuclear weapons, and is apparently developing ever increasingly destructive "weapons of mass destruction." - Reply to this comment

You're right, they don't appear to be under duress or pressure. In fact they look like they're a lot better off then the prisoners we release from Gitmo. I'll bet anything that when they get back they'll say they were treated with nothing but respect and kindness. Why? Because compared to Bush, Ahmadinejad is a political genius (of course so is my pet dog, but still). he knows that by releasing them unharmed and more importantly untortured, he comes off looking like a much more compassionate and sensible world leader. Unlike Bush who pushes torture and warmongering and comes off to the rest of the world for what he is, an ignorant pompous as*s and a bully. Face it, Ahmadinejad just played Bush like a well tuned violin. I'm no big fan of his, but in this case he showed himself to be many times the politician and leader then Bush. That describes the biblical view of mankind.
Why do you single out Muslims?
Jews and Christians also promote that idea.
BTW, the bible specifically requires bible believers to obey their kings & rulers. Which leaves little room for self-governance, freedom or "democracy." - Reply to this comment
- they don't appear under duress or pressure??? Dude, I cannot help you with this, thats so insulting, . . .

They did not appear to be under duress. They were being released and appeared to be nervous and excited, but they were speaking to the president of Iran and a crowd of people.
Which would account for being nervous and excited.
But, being nervous and excited is not the kind of duress to which I referred. I was referring to the kind of duress (torture) which the US & UK imposes on detainees.
Odd how detainees' "confessions" while being tortured by the US & UK are treated as genuine and accurate while those of people who are not being subjected to torture are dismissed as "under duress." - Reply to this comment
- I hear all your negative comments but I still say Irans actions will determine the course of events from this point. Irans future is in its own hands based on the decisions Iran makes. If Iran continues with uranium enrichment I'm for an attack, if Iran suspends uranium enrichment I'm for peace, its really that simple. But what I don't agree with is being locked into a course of action to attack Iran no matter what Iran does! If all of you are correct Iran will continue to support Hezzbolla, Hamas, Insurgents and enrich uranium in which case I say we attack! But right now Iran can go in the opposite direction and we must be willing to as well. I prefer peace but I'm ready for war too!

- tuckerindfw: Are you kidding? they don't appear under duress or pressure??? Dude, I cannot help you with this, thats so insulting, why don't you ask any POW in any war if they felt free to speak their mind while captured. That was so sad, so ridiculously moronic for you to say.....

- And the remainder of the people who have'nt thanked the "Iranian people" well never be known because you can't speak from the grave ......

The US & UK have murdered far more people than Iran. But, I'll bet those murdered by the US & UK wouldn't be thankful, either.
On what do you base the claim they were forced to thank the Iranian people? I just saw their interviews on BBC and they didn't appear to be under duress.
Nor did they appear to be reading scripts. - Reply to this comment

- When the US (and by implication, the UK) releases "detainees," they claim they were tortured and they sue.
When Iran releases "detainees," they thank the Iranian people.

- "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

- Are you hopeful that U.S. foreign policy will also, one day, become "nice".

Of couse I'm hopeful the U.S. will one day become nice. The U.S. is not a communist nation! President Bush has little time left in office and can't run again. President Bush is not permanent. So of course I'm hopeful, everyone should be. - Reply to this comment
