The AP reports that Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) met with Syrian President Bashar Assad today in Damascus. And according to the article, Issa criticized the administration while on the visit.

Aiding and abetting the enemy, right bourbon guy?

"That's called free enterprise! That's what Americas about. If you don't like it, stop buying it. Then they would see the need to drop the price! The big problem there is selling our rescoures to foriegn interest. All politicians are guilty of allowing that to happen. Dem's and Reps. Plus all the yuppies filing enviromental suits all over our country. They've hurt logging, drilling, agriculture, fishing, and much more. So we end up depending on outside productivity. "

Yep, you're right, Bourbon. If we reduced gas consumption at home, prices would drop. But people still insit on buying SUVs and driving them (alone) 3 blocks to the drive-thru. And we wonder why we're a nation of fat-*****.

You're also right that the environmental lobby has done no favors in many areas. Although the clean air and clean water acts of the 60s were essential and highly effective, many later efforts have been counter-productive (and, in fact, counter-intuitive.)

For instance, the catalytic converter. Although it cuts emissions, it lowers gas mileage, so the net result is more pollution and more consumption of gas. In Europe, they did the smart thing and designed smaller, cleaner-burning and more efficient engines instead of slapping a fake band-aid on the old, inefficient design.

There are plenty of other examples as well. It's an unfortunate example of what happens when good ideas get into the hands of lobbyists.

"Suppose we had a trade embargo on an enemy country, trying to persuade them to be nice. Then some coastal govenors went to visit this country, and said "hey pal, I don't care what the prez says." You can do business with my state, we'll allow your ships to dock, our states economy needs you." Would you consider that wrong?"

That would be wrong. It would also be exactly what Arnold Schwarzenegger and a few other Hollywood right-wingers did in Cuba. None of them was even in government at the time.

As far as I am concerned, Pelosi did nothing wrong. She did what 4 Republicans also did (which the NeoCons here have yet to address.) The difference is (as so often) she acheived something where the Republicans failed.

Don't worry, righties; we'll find a way to clean up all your mess eventually. It'll be a challenge, though, because in addition to being murderous thugs and war profiteers, you are so blitheringly incompetent that you make the Keystone Kops look like the Untouchables.

That would be treason... From the libs stance on pelosi, it would be ok, especially if it was their state reaping the rewards.
As far as the anti war spending bill? Another big laugh. The dems really care about are troops right? ha. That's why they all added a ton of pork to it? right to help the soldiers? Get real..They're up to their normal tax and spend, lets give to the low lifes that don't want to work for a living. Pelosi's out of control and should be booted.

Notblue, I read every source I can get my hands on. I guarantee that I am better informed than you. You have not once refuted anything I say; every time I site fact and logic, you respond with the same tired accusations that I am out of touch.

If you are so sure I am wrong, where are YOUR facts and figures? All you ever do is parrot right-wing propaganda, so essentially you're just lying second-hand.

"And it's not about oil!!! If we stole the oil do you think we'd be paying 3 bucks at the pump?"

Yep. We pay what the oil companies want us to pay. It's no coincidence to you that the gas prices went down to $2.10 a gallon just before the election and shortly afterwards shot back up to $3.00? That, despite no changes in production by OPEC? The oil levels in the world were unchanged, yet the gas prices see-sawed? It's obvious that the oil companies set the prices to whatever the h3ll they want to.

Bourbon, it is stupid to knock on the bees nest, especially Or maybe we could use a bee spray? Hmmm,

Typical Liberal Jump! I suppose you would allow them to keep stinging you? Kind of like the U.N. Just keep letting it go, miraculously it will fix itself.Ignoring the bees would only lead to more bees nest, until you could never enjoy peace and serenity in your own back yard. So of course blast the bees back to a manageable level. Tru Prog has it right. If we'd treat war like war, [as the last resort, and in this case it was] Just like WWII we'd take the middle east down to rubble, and do it again, and agian if neccesary until they learn to play nice. I'm tired of hearing the "no wmd's" The intellegence at the time said there were, the whole world said there was. We did what they did not have the balls to do! We acted after tremendous amount of diplomatic effort. I suppose you'd still be playing armchair quarter back if we'd of looked the other way, while the rape, pillage, and torture their own citizens. That sheeite spreads, that mentality spreads, and we can't set by and let it, because it will end up on our shores. Oh ya, It did end up on our shores!!!! And it's not about oil!!! If we stole the oil do you think we'd be paying 3 bucks at the pump? doofus.. Frankly I think we should take the oil. It would be a small price in repaying us for their chance at freedom! Now put down your al gore video, call up meeballzare hari and ask him to play you a game of checkers.

"Peace in our time ? Anyone remember Munich, or reading about it ? giving in to tyrants and bullies who have plans for conquest, but promise to be nice ?"

Bush supporters just keep on making that analogy, ironically aware that is their own American Fuehrer who is imposing the will of the country on weaker nations by force of arms.

Trueprogress, the USA is the Nazi Germany of the modern world, and Bush and Ko. have turned us into it. This is why real, patriotic Americans who believe in the ideals of truth and justice this country used to stand for hate them.

They are traitors, and if you support them, so are you. All your bloodthirsty hate-mongering and stupidity can't change that.

THANK YOU REPUBLICANS! STAY THE COURSE! I KNOW YOU WILL ATTEND THE FUNERALS OF THE AMERICAN SOLDIERS KILLED TODAY AND GO TO THE HOUSES OF THEIR FAMILIES!

Here is the updated Endangered Species list for 08! These Republicans should enjoy their time now. Half of them will be gone by December 2008!

It is not anti Semitic to believe that there are other good people in the Middle East and they should have a voice! You can see by the AIPAC advertisement below this PAC is selling influence to American Elected officials.

"hopefully the GOP will make that person a total nightmare like the DNC has done.."

Only if the president deserves it by being incompetent and corrupt, like Bush is. In fact, the very idea the Dems haven't impeached Bush and/or Cheney is more kindness than the Repubs showed for Clinton.

trueprogress, your WWII analogies are a joke - Syria as a modern day Germany. Assad as Hitler.

Maybe if Syria was one of the most industrialized and economically advanced nations in the world, with millions of soldiers under it's command, THEN maybe your comparison could make some sense.

But it's a sad little dirt pit.
AND, you forget one crucial thing - Israel could kick Syria's butt anyday.

Your bedwetting is embarassing.

Hey, 67 pages of postings here.
That's alot of contrived outrage.

You know, the assclown conservative posters don't seem to stand for anything other than hating libruls. That's it. That's what really gets their goat. Libruls. Or people that they think must be libruls. Like all those Republicans who are fed up and angry with the current state of the Republican leadership. Yup, these Republicans must be libruls.

The two parties could completely switch positions tomorrow on any given topic and these bozo conservatives, without skipping a beat, would immediately take the exact opposite position from what they "believe" today. They've already done it repeatedly...arguing for or against something until the moment that Bush flip flops and changes his mind and then amazingly the wingnuts all change their minds too.

(For example, Instaputz being loudly against more troops up until the day that Bush announced the surge...and then miraculously Instaputz was all for it.)

(cont.)

Bush has put the country in more danger of terrorist attack than anyone else on history. His sickeningly incompetent administration sitting up and begging for the 9/11 attacks (if in fact they were not complicit in them, which seems highly likely) was just the start. His arrogance and deep, deep stupidity has bred an entire generation of terrorists that we and our children will have to fight. Want to make a terrorist? It's easy. Drop a bomb on a rug-merchant's house.

They weren't "always there". They are the family, friends and fellow citizens of Arabs murdered by the Bush administration, the first presidency to use American soldiers as hired killers for profit.

Bush is an evil traitor and must be stopped.

Your Hanoi Jane reference is pathetically outdated. Get out of the 60's man!
And that makes me ROTFLMAO at your expense.

And while you're at it, don't forget Comrade Robert Aderholt, Comrade Joseph Pitts, and Comrade Frank Wolf, the three Republicans who met with Assad.

Or is that different somehow.

{You see, the terrorist are like the bees. They have always been there. We just shook up the nest. Is that simple enough, do you see now?

Posted by bourbon83 at 09:15 PM : Apr 04, 2007}

You have it exactly backwards, and it astounds me, frankly, that anyone could be so stupid as to 'think' this way. And your attempting to reduce a complex situation to a simple and meaningless analogy is typicl of right-wing Bushit propaganda and hate-mongering.

I believe that even you must agree that Massad (Israeli intelligence) has more reason than almost anyone to want the war on terror won? It may interest you to know that about 18 months or so ago they informed us that the horrendous mess we have made in Iraq has generated 10,000 new recruits for Al Qaeda alone, and world-wide about 5 times as many people are now actively involved in anti-US terror groups than were before the Iraq invasion.

This should come as a surprise to know one. When you invade a sovereign nation for no valid reason and slaughter its inhabitants by the hundreds of thousands, the survivors, their friends and neighbors will hate you. And rightly so.
