- Now is a great time of the year for you all to accept Him as your personal savior and turn from the hatred that is built up inside of you.

- I was a devout atheist most of my life, then I came across this verse one day and started praying for knowledge every night, and even though I wasn't a true believer at the time God gave me tons of knowledge pouring through everyday about the evils running this world, and what runs the people running the world. Knowledge doesn't come from the Bible - dogma comes from the Bible. Knowledge comes from the sciences.

- When you categorize being a Christian as simply following and practicing a doctrine, you are missing the true message, which is what Jesus Christ did on the cross for our sins.

This is what turned me and my life around. The Lord Jesus Christ works in strange ways, you might be laughing now, and you might be begging for forgiveness later too.
Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

I think this is only effective in terms of his base, Barbara. They are eager to forget his deception, warmongering, alienating of our allies, Libby, assaults on our personal freedoms, granting police-state powers, making us an international pariah, etc., etc., etc.
The rest of us keep a balance sheet and are not blinded by distraction..... - Reply to this comment
- After the mainstream media sold the public on the War on Terror, and they pledged to support the president and the intelligence agencies, are they going to tell us all that they lied and even willingly assisted in a covert operation against the American People?

I'm not sure Barb and Jenna are up to something like that.

- If Bush feels so strongly about the British hostages, then he needs to arm his twin daughters and send them over to rescue them. Otherwise, he needs to shut up. This is none of our business (not that how Sadam was ruling Iraq was any of our business).
Bush's talent is in creating smoke screens to hide or change the subject about other things happening in his administration. This is a great way to change the subject from everything that is falling apart: Gonzales, the tree legislation, the VA Hospitals, his plunging polls, the Democrats, his drinking, his failing marriage (ever notice his and Laura's body language when they are together? They don't even want to be in the same room). And most importantly, his Legacy, which has tanked. I heard that the University of Texas said they won't provide a site for his library. If he needs a site for his library, I'll be glad to furnish space - right over our septic tank. - Reply to this comment

- "I sat through "Reefer Madness" without even a pang of anxiety."
--------
"Reefer Madness is a 1936 drama film revolving around the tragic events that follow when high school students are lured by pushers to try "marihuana" [sic]: a hit and run accident, manslaughter, suicide, rape, and descent into madness all ensue. The film was directed by Louis Gasnier and starred a cast composed of mostly unknown bit actors. It was financed by a church group and made under the title Tell Your Children."

- I don't think ignorance or stupidity are the underpinngs of neocon support. I do believe, as I have often stated, that the neocon agenda appeals to the self-righteous, the paranoids, and the xenophobes among us.
These are mental disorders, not ignorance or stupidity, bro.

I agree with you.
I was a practicing Christian for much of my life until I finally woke up and realized how hateful the Christian message (as presented by most cult leaders, including Catholics, Baptists, and others) really is.
And, it relies primarily on fear as its foundation.
So it is little wonder that people who promote Christianity use the same fear mongering tactics that were used on them.

- It also remained a mystery how the Cornwall%u2019s advanced radar and sonar systems failed to alert its crew to a problem. As a type22 frigate, the Cornwall has the capability to track ships up to 200 miles away.

Good post, radiob. I have felt from the outset that a big factor in this scenario is the unspoken and downright embarassment that the Brits must be feeling about their troops having been check-mated by a government that they (and we) categorize as backward and definitely third-world. - Reply to this comment
- Through which media should persuasive video fear-inducing appeals be deployed?
Military information warfare research indicates that television news is the most effective channel for distributing psychological propaganda in support of military objectives.
Sociologists advise that compelling video messages must be crafted into the framework of the television news media.[26] The credible news frame defines the characteristics of believable news stories: reports must have subframes that are personalized, dramatized, fragmented, and normalized.[27] News media focus on a personalized actor subframe--individual leaders, spokespersons, exemplars of the political actions.[28] Media images convey a dramatized story subframe: beginnings, action style, plot lines and sub-plots, settings and scenery, rising and falling action, major and minor actors with major and minor motives, climax and anti-climax, and endings that close with a chorus (journalists, politicians, experts, the public, or all four) interpreting the moral lessons of the drama.
Please remember that you are reading military research, and not lessons for acting class or a school play. This applied military research is focusing on how to craft believable (although false) news stories and says that this propaganda must be depicted as television news. - Reply to this comment
- Emotional (fear-inducing) appeals are persuasive when they are truly frightful, suggest effective actions to reduce the fear-arousing threat, and the recipients believe that they are able to perform the suggested action.

- From the London Times
The Sunday Times has learnt that the paper highlighted the need for %u201Ctop cover%u201D for boarding parties, which should always have been covered from the air by the presence of a helicopter. The Cornwall%u2019s Lynx %u2013 armed with a .50 machinegun that could have caused serious damage to the Iranian fast boats %u2013 had apparently been overhead when the sailors boarded the Indian freighter.
Why did it turn back, leaving the sailors exposed? The ministry initially said last week that it needed to refuel before retreating behind an insistence that there was no standard procedure for keeping a helicopter in place.
It also remained a mystery how the Cornwall%u2019s advanced radar and sonar systems failed to alert its crew to a problem. As a type22 frigate, the Cornwall has the capability to track ships up to 200 miles away. One recently retired naval officer said even basic navigation radar should have picked up motorboats at shorter range, assuming someone was looking out for them.
From a different article in the Times.
There is a dispute amongst the Iranians as what to do with the 15 sailors.

Is that one of those presidential "we"s?
When Bush uses the word "we," he means "anyone but me."
The chances of ground forces "rescuing" those "hostages" is roughly zero.
How about the US & UK return the Iranians "we" kidnapped?
Seems much cheaper than initiating another "war" that the US & UK cannot win. - Reply to this comment
