Comments on: Protesters Greet Bush In Brazil
Latin America Trip Is Intended To Promote Democracy And Ethanol Use
- This kind of news is hard for White House spinmeisters to cover with smoke and mirrors. And it brings home to America a fuller realization of the incredible failure Bush represents. Everywhere in the world, Bush finds hatred and opposition.
Does Bush think something might be wrong in his approach? Probably not. As joanpz put it succinctly, "U.S. is ONLY INTERESTED IN COUNTRIES that HAVE AIR BASE POSSIBILITIES or that GREASY, OILY STUFF."
Meanwhile, American prestige is in tatters, and any claim to having a statesman at the helm is a joke. As Bush scrambles for political cover and finds none, his final days are not going to be pretty. - Reply to this comment
- Hey seven-pesos: William Faulkner? Samuel Clemens? Eudora Welty? Tennessee Williams? Johnny Cash? Chuck Berry? Ray Charles?REM? Dixie Chicks? B-52s?
Oh, sorry, didn't know you could write (if you call that writing) but couldn't read. - Reply to this comment
- "In 1954 the United States funded and trained a group to lead a coup in Guatemala. Why? United Fruit, a powerful multi-national corporation..." Posted by clemenhagen
Yes, and it's all documented in "Endless Enemies: The Making of an Unfrlendly World" by Johathan Kwitny. Excellent book. It describes how America's worldwide interventions destroyed democracies and free enterprise and defeated our own best interests.
Excellent book written in 1984 and is as applicable today as it was then. It's also non-partisan; he puts the blame where it belongs: on both parties. - Reply to this comment

- Hey, if Bush is so concerned about approval ratings in other countries, maybe he'd like to take a little trip over to Iraq. I get the sense they're even more annoyed with him there than folks are in South America.

- seven-pesos, regarding your blanket disavowal of all things Southern: perhaps you've heard William Faulkner? Samuel Clemens? Eudora Welty? Tennessee Williams? Johnny Cash? Chuck Berry? Ray Charles?REM? Dixie Chicks? B-52s?
Or is art and literature beyond your ken? - Reply to this comment
- Hey, WP had an addendum to this Brazil article - SOMETHING HOMELAND SECURITIES WILL HAVE to TRY to CIRCUMVENT IN THE WAR ON TERROR - Yep, these BRILLIANT BRAZILIANS pelted BUSH'S GROUP WITH "POTATO BOMBS"? (Why, it is dynamite wrapped in aluminum foil!)
Another thing these versatile rioters carried was SUGAR CANE with a message saying how MUCH WATER HAD TO BE USED TO CONVERT CANE TO ETHANOL -- sure that GW won't learn from these Latin Americans - this is only the "TIP OF THE ICEBERG" for GW... - Reply to this comment
- World Trade
Banking
Business
Corporate interest
Free trade ---
FOREIGN interest ONLY.
I THOUGHT that 7 years ago the republican agenda was to "bring our money back home"
to stop those evil democrats from giving away the peoples $$, time and bring it back where it belongs -
This putrid leadership ignore ALL domestic issues - except "crowd control, police security and gathering information on the people"-
our money is taken and our needs ignored.
I want to see the exact figures of how much we - the people used in OUR money compared to how much he's given away during his oil war, bribing foreign countries, the UN, free weapons, nuclear abilities to the very country the 9-11 panel found involved in the WTC attack?
He needs to work here - in the country that pays his salary. He's there to insure his "power" over Chavez and nothing more. It's ALL about trade money and profit. Shame --- for us. - Reply to this comment
- Horrible to say, U.S. is ONLY INTERESTED IN COUNTRIES that HAVE AIR BASE POSSIBILITIES or that GREASY, OILY STUFF Bush's Texans love! Think the U.S. started the "name calling" when it came to CUBA: DOLE fruit canneries & Domino Sugars were claimed for Cuba by Castro; HAITI - just TOO POOR and 60miles from US shores, US "crushed" this country & removed "elected" president; VENEZUELA - NOW...that is different CHAVEZ'S VENEZUELA HAS OIL - and well, TEXANS LIKE BUSH CAN'T STAND ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY HAVE SOMETHING BETTER THAN TEXAS!

- We can't just say 'screw y'all!'. It's a nearly a billion people within driving and short-haul distance. We need them as a market, as employees, and as strategic security partners. Just because Chavez and Fidel are making it hard doesn't mean we should become isolationists.

ANY short term fix in this area is gone and we have a significant problem as far a security is concerned. The HATRED for this nation because of Sir Lies-A-Lot is significant and I disagree with you about Chavez. Bush is hated so much that it has certainly made Chavez bigger than he should be. Right now Chavez arrives in that city and people mob the parade route just to get a look at him... you know the way OUR leader used to be treated. Today our leader is confined to the OFFICIAL Government buildings. NO attempt to go out in public can even be made. THAT's how bad it is... - Reply to this comment

- It is obvious this is an effort to rescue his legacy. George W is going on a charm offensive in South America.
In the meantime, American troops are dying, we continue to flush 2 FREAKING BILLION A WEEK in the ******** called Iraq.
And ******** Cheney and his Halliburton buddies are laughing all the way to the bank!
WAR is the greatest way to DEFRAUD the American people!
How much of that 2 billion a week is going to Bush's buddies?
Would be interesting to know. - Reply to this comment
- "Who really gives a flying f**k what latin america thinks - besides libs. What are they going to do, cut off our drug supply? Stop sending their unskilled fruit pickers across the border?"
The goodwill of Latin America is very important. It's become about one of the biggest single markets in the world. Affluence is rising, as is literacy and infrastructure. It still has enormous problems - swelling population, poverty, environmental degradation - but it has tremendous potential. Most signficantly, it's developing its own regional consciousness, and the U.S. has been challenged to meet it as a peer, not as a superpower.
We can't just say 'screw y'all!'. It's a nearly a billion people within driving and short-haul distance. We need them as a market, as employees, and as strategic security partners. Just because Chavez and Fidel are making it hard doesn't mean we should become isolationists. - Reply to this comment
- It is a couple hundred strong at best. But of course one zoomed in picture is enough to trick the masses that watch CBS.

Yeah you just keep believing that! I'm on THEIR side so you just keep believing that... just don't expect help when the reality comes home to visit. Oh they hate him Sparky... the entire area is turning Socialist and you losers are to blame. Oh they hate him and you can take it to the bank. Soon we will be prisoners within our own boarders and YOU Fascist are to blame. It's WORLD Wide Sparky but you just keep believing what you want. Maybe we can make it until ONLY your kids will have to pay for this. - Reply to this comment
- "It's shocking to me that there are still American scum that still support the Worst President in US History. It's gotta be the all those inbred offspring that clearly permeate the southern states. No other explanation possible!"
Please don't blame the good folks of the South, its not a matter of North or South, Red or Blue-- its down to simple matter of those Americans who can hold their heads up and those with their heads up their own arse. - Reply to this comment
- Just a message to our friends in South America. We understand how you feel and would love to have this Fascist gone as well.

- It is embarrassing that an American president cannot leave the White House without his SS cordoning off blocks around to keep protesters at bay and from being seen by the media.
It is even more embarrassing when he cannot travel to "friendly" nations without even tighter security.
George Bush is the worst president in US history. He should resign and take his boss D. Cheney with him.
We would be better off with no president and v.p. than the losers we are stuck with. - Reply to this comment
- We Travelling Americans KNOW IT IS TRUE that GW BUSH DEMANDS COUNTRIES HE VISITS GIVE FULL SECURITY AT THEIR OWN TAXPAYERS COSTS -
BRITAIN RIOTERS DEMAND "IF GW BUSH COMES TO BRITAIN, THE U.S. REPUBLICAN PARTY SHOULD PAY FOR BUSH'S SECURITY - Not British Taxpayers"!
Of course, the GOP did not COMPLY!
Interesting that GW Bush likes to VISIT COUNTRIES THAT HAVE FREE SPEECH - can't say the U.S. HAS ALLOWED U.S.PROTESTORS FREE SPEECH IN UNITED STATES these last 6 years -- - Reply to this comment
- Nope, you are wrong about that. GWB is actually fairly fluent in Spanish. It was a factor in the 2004 election because Kerry's Spanish is very poor.

ROFLMAO Right! He's no better with Spanish than he is with English. YOU pathetic Water Bearers like to pretend he won the election by a wide margin... not so and he didn't do very well with Hispanics at all. Regardless he's turned out to be the bigest liar and the most hated man on the planet. That is very clear for all to see with this trip. JUST watch!! - Reply to this comment
