Well well... seems like I hit a nerve there... being called a "Bible thumper" even though I was not even talking about the Bible in my comment to you. Sorry, Phil, didn't mean to strike so close to home.

I wasn't saying that all versions were completely different. I agree 100% that the message is still the same. I don't happen to follow that faith. That in no way affects anyone else. My path to salvation/nirvana/heaven etc is MY path no one elses. I enjoy learning about other faiths, other cultures, other histories. I respect all who have a conviction and lives by it, no matter if I agree with it or not. IT takes strength and I recognize that. Afer growing up in an evangelical household and community I DID see intolerance not from God, but from the followers, the same goes for conditional love. I understand that not all believers are the same. I have had a different experience. There are kind, generous, loving people all over the world, I respect all of them.

To valaflame,

Thanks for making my point.

Do you write everything all in one breath?

Relax: enjoy the moment.

And please stop preaching.

Concerning "tolerance"... Christians are instructed by Jesus to "love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus did not pound people into submission, but He did offer Himself to them... and He did say that there would be consequences for people if they did not accept what He was saying as truth. Like it or not, this is the Jesus of the New Testament. However, Christians are to love people and leave judgment up to God. We are to do as Jesus did and make a distinction between the sin and the sinner, remembering that we too are sinners in God's eyes, rescued from condemnation not because we were good enough to be, but because Jesus gave Himself up for all who believe in Him. Thus Tolerance should be demonstrated in our attitudes towards people... we should not merely "tolerate" people, but love them. However, that does not mean that we excuse sinful behavior... that does not mean that we do not speak out against injustice and wrongdoing. Jesus did rescue the woman caught in adultery (John 8)... he did say "He who is without sin cast the first stone!"... but He also told the woman, "Go and sin no more." He did all of this because He was compassionate to her.

So what.

As a Christian, I am always willing to make up my own mind about things as long as what is being prsented does not interfere with my belief in God.

Have you seen the documentary yet?

I don't say this to be crude, but your comments come off sounding more like the typical village "Bible Thumper," who everyone turns away from when they see him or her walking down the street.

Phil-in...

The fact that no archaeologist or historian wants to even come close to this thing ought to indicate that it's not some "discovery." Everyone's saying that it's blatantly for the money. The director has absolutely no credentials to be undertaking such a thing as this. It comes off as being a product of someone who's lost the distinction between fiction and reality because he's read the Da Vinci Code one too many times. I don't say this to be crude, but your comments come off sounding more like the typical village atheist rather than the ruminations of someone actually engaging the facts of the debate.

Concerning the claim that Christianity does not promote tolerance nor unconditional love, there are some assumptions that need to be brought to light. 1) The assumption that God's judgment (as described in Revelation) is all about people who reject Jesus -- The fact is God is not just judging that in itself as sin, though He is, but also every other sort of sin that people commit (lying, stealing, cheating, adultery, fornication, self-righteousness...etc). 2) There is the old argument that a non-Christian can live a very good life and therefore does not need God... but is this not simply another form of self-righteous arrogance? Christianity does not claim to make people "nice" or "perfect", it claims to make individuals "nicer" and "better" than they would be were they without God. 3) Christians acknowledge that we are all in the same boat -- "No one is righteous...no, not one." (cf. Romans 3) Nobody can stand before a truly Holy God. We need a Savior who can do that for us.

"This movie should receive the same reception O.J.Simpson's book did - run the other way 'cause it's all about the money."

Shame on you, Discovery channel.

On the contrary, many discoveries about God and Jesus have always been disputed by the church as sacrilege.

Remember that talk about the word being flat?

That the earth is the centre of the universe?

That revealing the language of the ancient Egyptians pushes back the time-line past the Bible, meaning that the works of the ancient Egyptians are actually the works of satan?

If you keep a closed mind as a Christian, you are surely putting your head into the sand (or somewhere else).
