- "Hey lars008, What the hell are you on, whatever it is, send me some you Muppet!!"
lars008 also really needs to learn the meaning of the word "fascist" too since he seems to wrongly use it with liberals all the time instead of the true facsist currently occupying the White House. You see lars008, the biggest thing about fascism is it's belief in authoritarian rule, secrets and using war to further it's goals. Since that describes neocons and not liberals, you are using "fascist" entirely wrong.

- "Why isn't there a telescopic camera that can automatically track a target to get a good look at it? With the millions of dollars put into these aircrafts there should be something that would make it possible for pilots to identify targets!!! I just get the opinion that there is no real effort put into making these planes effective"
The A-10 is a thirty year old airplane which was desgined around a 30mm gun firing depleted uranium shells, built to take a lot of damage and still fly (think "flying tank") and designed to kill tanks in Europe. Except for a heads up display, it has few advanced systems and not worth upgrading because of it's age. In fact, it was supposed to be retired many times, but they kept finding uses for it.
It is very difficult, even in a "fancy" jet, to ID targets. Planes have IFF devices that can identify enemy and friendly planes, but ground vehicles do not. When you are at 5 or 10 thousand feet and flying between 300-400MPH, it's impossible to eyeball small vehicles and a single pilot would have much difficulty with cameras or binoculars, trying to ID targets, fly the plane and watch for threats. - Reply to this comment

- herteticzero,
I think most sensible people fully understand the problems of warfare and do sympathise with both pilots and the controller, who, like Mrs Hull will find that the hurt will not go away.
What is at issue here is the cruel supression of the evidence and the refusal by both the Pentagon and the British Ministry of Defence to assist the Coroner in coming to a truthful verdict in this case. The people of both America and the UK also have a right to know the truth. We elected these people, they work for us the people, and in accepting their lofty positions should take heed of our wishes.
The second issue is that they are leaping about gnashing their teeth because someone within their ranks copied and gave the tape to US the people. They are more upset about that than they are about Cpl Hull's death and the anguish of the flyers. What sort of people hide under a cloak of official secrets ? Cruel and evil people who took us to war on a lie. After killing and mutilating over 100,000 people including their own, the life of one British soldier is nothing to them, which in itself should tell the American people that they care little for the 3000 of their sons and daughters sacrificed for their hidden agenda and lies. - Reply to this comment
- This was a mistake. The pilots are not at fault.
This story has NOTHING to do with Bush, so quit talking about him.
It is amazing how ignorant people are to the consequences of us losing in Iraq. Amazing..... - Reply to this comment
- The real story is how the US & UK attempted to keep this info from the public by given it classified status.
It is obvious that there is nothing classified in terms of value to the "enemy," but it does reveal the US & UK's improper use of the classification system.
Whoever classified the tape should be prosecuted for tampering with evidence and interfering with an investigation.
Mistakes happen in war with tragic consequences, but the improper classification was not a mistake, it was an attempt at a coverup. - Reply to this comment
Do you people really think "friendly fire" is a new thing? I am sure that during WW1 WWII had it too. Intel is to blame for this whole mess from the beginning. I remember Clintons as the first to use the words WMD- Reply to this comment
- "High tech war? Yeah right!"
Well, with the nickname "Warthog", A-10's aren't exactly known for their advanced technology :)
Newer aircraft like the B-2, F-22 and the soon to be F-35's can directly tap into AWACS, JSTARS and even each other's aircraft to get an overall view of the battlefield. Theoretically, mistakes like this would be greatly reduced. - Reply to this comment
- to Egotistic,
ROFL.. You sure are egotistic. Falsely though.
If americans did as you suggested, nothing would get said. Truth would not come out. Opinions would not be heard, and those with money and power would always keep money and power and the corruption that goes with it would (and is) bring nothing but sorrow, pain, and poor living conditions for the masses in comparison to those powerful few that work so hard to entrench their power. And yes, it is the GOP's fault. They have run the government for 7 years through Bush's disasterous presidency & Congress. Their policies have brought us all that has gone wrong for the general public. Secrecy, deny the constitution, consolidate power. Those are their goals. - Reply to this comment
- egotistic ; grab your gun and go shoot a bunch of those politicians that you dont believe are supporting the will of the electorate. I am sure that as soon as you start others will follow! do something or shutthehell up!

- Blame Bush, he led the US there under false pretenses.

- Forward observers are supposed to help pilots confirm targets. Iraq forces try to imitate allied troops. Who's to say the pilots did not think Iraq troops were immitating US convoys? When in combat you have very little time to make choices, they are not determined for you. Unfortunately not all choices are correct. I remember once several years ago when Canadian aircraft were directed by the controllers to drop their bombs on a target which turned out that the controllers directed them to drop their bombs on top of the controller! If you are a pilot, you are at the mercy of the intelligence information you are given. If it is faulty, everyone pays the price.

- egotistic, Can't speak for you people but in the UK, the new British National Party is doing just as you suggest. Furthermore, those posting on here are at the very least making their opinions public and known. Sadly a vote no longer counts as the recipient totally ignores the electorate's wishes So, are you suggesting revolution ?

- In war, mistakes are made.
Friendly fire in always going to be a problem in a warzone.
But what is disgusting is the fact that the Bush Administration has refused to hand over the tapes to the British - our supposed allies - and tried to keep them secret.
My heart goes out to those involved - the family of the dead British soldier and to those who fired on them.
However, I have nothing but contempt and disgust for that moron GW Bush.
That moron is a war criminal and deserves to be treated as such. - Reply to this comment
- ROFL @ you all. Hiding the tape is the GOP's doings? I love today's arm chair politicians. If just 1/10th of you all ran for presidency in 08, maybe America would have something to choose from. Stop playing arm chair politics, shut your mouths and do something about it!

- DRinUK good point! The fact that the people will killed in a friendly fire incident is overshadowed by the idiots wondering how the information got out. It is a backwards of priorities as the GOP is more concerned with keeping quiet the shortcomings under their watch than fixing the problems. Sort of like hiding Mark Foley being a pedophile with under age high school children right in the halls of congress.
