I would not think the Democrats consider themselves God, or even Liberal Gods, more likely they do not hide their heads in the sand as do some, and realize it is better to take some action than none at all.
As was said by a previous posting, if the problem of potential Climate warming proves to be a false premise, then no harm is done, and most likely some long term benefits gained, but as there is a possibility that you and your ilk are wrong and we are in danger from Climate warming, then surely the better option would be to begin A.S.A.P an attempt to remedy that possible situation.
It does seem a little strange to me that the side of politics that has the greatest vested interest in the fossil fuel energy industry, is the one in greatest denial of Climate warming. - Reply to this comment

There is not scientific proof that man is the sole cause of global warming yet the Democrats have vowed to stop it? Are they God? or just Liberal Gods? - Reply to this comment

Yes we are in the unfortunate situation here, of having a Prime Minister who can only see nuclear, maybe, it is the better way to go, but surely we could look at the many other alternatives firstly, as they do not have the potential risks associated with them.
Unfortunately like the sun and the wind, there is not a lot of potential for people to enrich themselves on them, so the shakers and movers of the world have little incentive or interest.
You are having a late one. - Reply to this comment
- rheola, you are so correct, it is a shame that people have to throw verbal brick bats at those who have a differing opinion. I love to hear those who have other opinions simply because I learn from them.
I dont believe that the scientists who believe in global warming is our fault are necessary fully correct, partically manybe but there are other causes, and as I have said before, if we were the cause of the increases in CO2 then why are we not being forced to plant more trees which absorb CO2's... makes one wonder if the real reason for pushing global warming is because most people in the world are scared of nuclear and that they are in effect manipulating us into believing that we should all go nuclear...
Heavens I know only a little, but I do know that trees absorb CO2's... so why dont they???? it is a much cheaper way of solving the problem... The other problem being that the sun is heating up so how can they stop that,, as history has shown, it will cool again... look up "sun cause of global warming and see for yourselves... - Reply to this comment

- what has been happening over a few decades really? Everything much more complecated that it seems. If u look and co2 lvls and temp durin last decades u will already see incosistancies.Durin 1940-1970 co2 lvl goes up temp actually goes down. If u look and temp at us 1880-2000 u will see that there were even high picks at ave temp. data from around the glob do show some increase but how accurate it is from some countries for that period? And there are lots more of contradicting data for any part of the global warming. It's not as simple as see then temp risen in last 20 years something deffently goin on. As for melting ice it even more complicated...last decades at antarctica and greenland temp was actually decreasin all this time. And ice accumulates under the see lvl.Only antarctic peninsula is melting and losin icebergs what all reportes show everywhere, but continent as whole getting colder and ice is getting thicker.and that peninsula is 2 % of the whole continent and antarctica itself holds 90% of all ice. I
m not saying that global warmin not happening just people who only know 2-3 facts like temp and see lvl and jump everywhere thinkin they know everything and it happens if u do research even that quit questinable. - Reply to this comment

- If nothing else I have learnt quite a bit about the American phyche over the past couple of days, and have developed deep respect for some of the correspondents, both those whom appear to be in agreeance with my views and those whom oppose my views, we all have that right thankfully, in our respective countries.
As in my own country you appear to also have many, whose defence is to subject those who may differ to abuse, mild or otherwise, truly an unfortunate trait. - Reply to this comment

You're wasting energy again and if you were in my house and saw the light on, why didn't you turn it off? Now I know where those leftovers went... - Reply to this comment

- WASTING ENERGY? Wasting energy is when you leave your computer on and you are not using it. Wasting energy is when you leave your lights on when you are not in the room. Wasting energy is when you are flapping your gums and you don't know what your talking about!

- Aardbear.
It is total conjecture as to the existence of a God or not, there is no definitive proof either way.
However the wearing down of mountains etc take many millions of years, what is at present happening has been happening over a very few decades, and except to those totally blind, the proof positive is there, even if you wish to call it cyclic, that still happens generally over a millenium or more.
With respect to El Nino,[yes with an "N"]that is a cyclic event that happens generally over a period of approx 2 or 3 years, so there, grab onto that as an excuse, no matter how improbable. - Reply to this comment
- You know what I think is funny - people who post here, using up energy, blaming other people for using up energy. If you believe that GW is caused by human activity and if you think that the curtailment of human activity is the answer, then using your computer is hypocritical of you as you are "obviously" wasting energy.
If you don't like me saying this, then you should really hate it when Big Brother says the same thing and points a gun at you to emphasize his meaning...

- actually non of the siences will tell u that we got anything that abnormal this moment that's y there are so many debates. So far everything only predicted to get much worser, but the problem with predictions they are way off at this moment for long time periods. If u actually check date for hurricanes tornadoes and etc, u will see we have nothing out of the ordinary comparing to other cycles like at 1940-1970 for examle. That's y this issue so hard to actually figure out couse there are no such an either signs like all claim in here, there are really small things that can predict that it can end really bad. those freen gases actually like 0.032 % of all the air. And termites alone preduce more then all humans put together. For every reason in the news there are lots of counter reasons couse news tryin to make it simple and the rest of the people just read basic stuff without actual reserch data, and that's the biggest danger when people just read what other people say and jump on everyone else based on it.

- You know what I think is funny? One of the biggest polluters in the world (U.S.)are the ones with the most denial.

- I don't know how anyone could possibly believe that global warming isn't mostly man-made. Do you believe that we are polluting our air with exhaust from our cars? putting holes in the ozone layer? polluting our waters? How long do you think that we can go on doing these things before there are major problems? We already have millions of people with cancer. Do you think that the things that we do only affect us and not the planet? Yes, there is probably a natural warming of the earth, but not to this extreme. Where I live the weather has been VERY abnormal. We have had so many big wind storms, so much rain this winter. And the last two summers have been a lot hotter. Look at the rest of the world, all the tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes. This isn't normal. We are paying the consequences for our stupidity.

G'day to ye, mate. Nationalism is the result of human nature to blame other humans and not to accept fault for our own actions which is the danger in giving some humans too much power (the current occupant of the WH is a good example). Tell the Hatfields that GW is caused by Man and they'll blame it on the McCoys, guaranteed.
Do what you can to save yourself and those who you care about and that will reduce the load on the rest of us to do it for you and I'll do the same here in The Republic (not US). Once we have secured our own survival, then we can reach out to help others. - Reply to this comment
- JT Lancer wrote: "It boggles my mind that so many people are so quick to believe that global warming is a manmade phenomenon."
That makes two boggled minds here. It boggles my mind that people can A) say this understanding was reached "quickly" (as opposed to the reality which is that this issue has been under discussion for the past 40 years at least), and B) that after all the evidence has been weighed and reweighed, and the world's scientists have concluded that this climate change is man-made, that people can still be digging their heads in the sand, saying it isn't happening.
If you can't believe global consensus by the world's leading scientists, governments worldwide, think tanks sponsored by Big Oil (notably Exxon last month), and even your own President Bush (finally), you're obviously not going to be convinced ever, at all. So just stay out of the way while the rest of us try and save the human race from extinction, OK? - Reply to this comment

Try selling the light bulb idea as way to save people money instead of "saving the planet." "Saving the planet" is an abstract that most people cannot touch, subsequently they don't feel the connection but they do feel the connection with their wallets. I've been around long enough to remember when that particular light bulb was an expensive novelty but now that they can be had for a reasonable price at our local Wal-Mart, more people should make use of them.

- Hullo again olgreyghost.
I along with others do remember the holocaust was regarded by those responsible, as self defense, however it was the result of extreme nationalism, was it not so.
Unfortunately it is also a form of nationalism by many in this present world, making it difficult for a rational debate to take place on this potential Global warming. For this we are in part all to blame.
By the way I shall not make inferance er inference to your comments in future, but will unfortunately probably mispell an occassional word.
Have a great day. - Reply to this comment
