Lars, at various times throughout history, Christians have done the same things.

It is not "Islam" that does these things. It is "some Muslims". Equally "some Christians" have done, and continue to do, terrible things.

Religion is a bad idea. It gets in the way of understanding.

tell it to the muslims..... they started it....

and btw.... the current war in iraq is a continuation of the first one that ended in a cease fire that iraq broke, so a continuation of hostilities was inevitable.....

self defense is not against international law..... muslims want to kill non muslims...... non muslims have a right to defend themselves....

As SusanHelit says, we take away the radicals' recruiting drive by providing an alternative. Go after them directly, not everyone who happens to look like them.

Israeli intelligence has stated that Muslim anger generated by the Iraq war has resulted in 10,000 new recruits for Al Quaeda alone, and world wide has multiplied by 5 the number of terrorists actively working against us.

Bush is an idiot.

Religion is used as a screen. On the Muslim side, they say "Kill the infidel" when they could justifiably say "Kill the bully who won't stop stealing and killing". On our side, their using religious terminology (unnecessarily) to justify the fact that they are angry with us allows us to say, "Ah, they're all a bunch of religious fanatics."

Doubtless, some are, and those are the ones we should be going after. Mass slaughter of Arabs, though, as in Iraq, will just make all the rest of them hate us too. The fact that there are a few nutcases on their side doesn't justify our going to war against entire nations. It's the same stupid *** Western countries have been doing for centuries.

Basically, you don't get to be a huge, colossal ****** to major portions of the human race and then blame them for being upset with you. I deplore their methods (and if they try them against me or mine, I will kill those responsible if I can) but I totally understand their feelings, and don't feel that large scale war against innocents is justified.

"If it comes down to survival -- you have to be prepared to be the baddest guy on the block -- so get over your liberal feel good tendencies -- get you self set for survival -- the islamic radicals want our loaf of bread and our quart of water.

And that is where we come to a disagreement. In my opinion, people in the Arab world are angry with us because (to extend the analogy) we already have an entire smorgasboard, salad bar, open bar, deli and a side of beef on a spit, but we want their loaf of bread and quart of water as well, and we're going over there with guns to get it.

Some Muslims may just be nuts (religious or otherwise) and hate us for that reason. However, I think the fact that we (the US) have for best part of a century been interfering in their governments, propping up their dictators who would send us oil and also in the last 15 years have killed over a million Iraqis probably has a lot to do with it. Going back further (again, in the name of religion) there is a history of Western invasions of Muslim lands going back to the 1100s.

it worked for genghis khan.... there was 100 years of peace after he killed all that opposed him....

GENGHIS KHAN KNEW HOW TO TREAT MUSLIMS!

The Mongol Empire practiced religious tolerance to a large degree because it was generally indifferent to belief. The exception was when religious groups challenged the state. For example Ismaili Muslims that resisted the Mongols were exterminated.

If survival came down to who was the baddest mofo - we'd have evolved that way. Fortunately, it doesn't. The toughest, strongest, meanest - whatever - gets taken out easily by any number of apes in the animal kingdom. And even there, they know that communities, working together, is the best way to ensure survival.

We must defend ourselves, but we'll be most likely to survive, and take the least damage by eliminating the radicals by stealing their recruits from them, by offering a better worldview, than by a no holds barred, kill everyone, dumb confrontation.

From the co-founder of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)

"Muslim institutions, schools and economic power should be strengthened in America. Those who stay in America should be open to society without melting, keeping Mosques open so anyone can come and learn about Islam. If you choose to live here, you have a responsibility to deliver the message of Islam ...... Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth." - Omar Ahmad

OK - I tend to agree with you -- And I have lots of guns and ammo -- realistic -- if we get down a quart of water and a loaf of bread -- i will kill to make it mine -- and i will do it in my own name -- not in the name of God -- That is just the nature of survival
