Don't b1tchslap Bush on this one (there's so much more deserving stuff than this to smack him over). This isn't a US-only effort here. The fact that Russia and China are on board on this one too is significant. Iran is blustering right now in order not to lose face. But they know they have to do something if Russia and China signed onto this.

And sanctions can work if everyone agrees. Saddam went nowhere with his nuke program and was pretty much in a box the whole time - until Bush f@cked it up with his war. However, too many countries broke with sanctions on North Korea. That's why is didn't work with them.

It's the oil, it has always been the oil, we are in the middle East to stay, they had it, now we have it and we are going to keep it till someone takes it from us. It does not matter who the hel^ is running things in Washington. We just sent another carrier task force over to let everyone know we are there to stay. Anyone who still believes we were there to set up a democracy or looking for wepons of mass distruction needs to have their heads examined! In two years we will have permenent military bases in Iraq. Any goverment there will be our puppit. You can take that to the bank.

"...the u.n. called and said stop making this weapon or we'll freeze your supply of chips ahoy cookies..."

Chuckle...and I'm sure you like other brands of cookies as well. You could just as easily shift to Oreos or another favorite.

Essentially Iran is saying: "You're not the boss of me!"

We're going to find this type of response more and more. There is something to be said for diplomacy because threats and intimidation don't work anymore. GWB is and has been a "do as I say, not as I do" President. He was this way before we married him (he hid it well); true colors surface after the honeymoon is over.

I agree sanctions are a useless waste of time created by the liberals as a non-violent method of intimidation. Personally if i was making a sniper rifle in my basement and the u.n. called and said stop making this weapon or well freeze your supply of chips ahoy cookies, I would tell them to F off. which is basically what Iran did. However i do not agree that you can pin the Atomic technologies on the U.S. alone we know that regardless of weather we had created it or not other countries were involved in similar projects that lead to the discovery of more advanced nuclear technology later we just beat them to it.

Ah... Sanctions... They have worked so well in the past.

It's just more opportunity for those who have the means to make more money by skirting the sanctions. Were not there scores in this game when Saddam's Iraq had sanctions placed upon it?

Did it slow up Kim Jung Il?

I'm encouraged though, as the world is finally being awakened to just how immoral it is that A-bomb technologies were invented, publicised, disseminated, proliferated, and enhanced by the western world.

Should Borneo have the bomb? NO. And every human lives in Borneo by my estimation.

The moral imperative of life is to live a life that detracts not at all from the lives available to those who will follow us into this world.

By that measure, none of us is civilized yet.

iranians accept a restrictive and dictatorial government just as we accept one of incompetent leaders who benefit from a tradition of apathy among their public. Are we that different?

The majority decision of the UN does not give it true moral authority over how an independent nation can or can not pursue science.

Theoretically UN sanctions legislate the morality of how to use nuclear science with a carrots and sticks approach to "rogue" countries. It is a sort of tyranny of the majority of the nations of the world, brought to you by the United Nations.

The UN has a critcal design flaw. It is collective decision making forum but without collective representation. And its decisions to often come down to the "lowest common denominator" of morality.

We Americans continue to give it our faith, treasure, and trust. Why? Is the UN the manifestation of our rationalization for our apathy?

Why is the American Eagle forever fond of sticking its head in the sand? I suppose the view is a lot nicer from there.

If we refuse to engage fully in these issues, these issues will fully engage us, and land right in our living rooms.

One of the first ,and most hard working Americans, Ben Franklin, once wrote " Not to make a decision is to make a decision."

If we have collectively decided not to decide, and fools lead us in our relations with foreign states, then we have chosen a fools path for not only ourselves but our children.

Iran Vows To Defy U.N. Sanctions

As well they should! Hasn't this idiot Bush ever heard of diplomacy? This as*shole starts out with threats and then gets even more threatening when the people he's threatening don't like being threatened! Who in the hell does he think he is? No one left in the US with a brain still supports the moron Bush, so where does he get off threatening other countries? We don't back him anymore! He's a lone lunatic voice in the wilderness! If I was running Iran I'd laugh in Bush's face!

Bush has already committed mass murder in our name in Iraq. The as*shole does NOT have our permission to commit international suicide by invading Iran! Back off you son of a Bit*ch Bush our we'll back your *** of for you motherfu*cker!
