Benedict XVI Urges Leaders Of All Religions To Condemn Violence
- "Peace is the basis of all religions," Benedict told Bardakoglu.
Hey Pope, just so you know:
Philosophy is the basis of all religions, not peace. - Reply to this comment
- They were talking about the Ten Comandments on TV. There was a Muslim in the group. He said that Islam had something like the Ten Comandments. When he got to the one that says thou shall not kill he said Islam says thou shall not kill except because of injustice.
If you are looking for injustice then you will always find it. Jesus showed us how to handle it.
Like he did. He said to love each other and to forgive each other. That is his teaching. I really don't think G-d wants his children hating and killing each other. We are all his children.
I love the Pope and I pray he will have a save visit and that people will listen. He is a wise man. - Reply to this comment
- The unwillingness of the Religious leaders to show any acceptance of other ideas is founded in their need to control the follower%u2019s opinions by exploiting the blind trust required for a follower to believe.
It's funny to me how people would rather accept an easy answer for questions about our existence. I think it's kind of lazy and self-righteous, but more and more these days I see people wanting the easy answers for everything.
I believe in God but I do not try and assume I know what it is. If I DID except a man made version of what God is, then I would feel I am lending myself to ignorance.
Even our holidays like Christmas; our children connect the giving of presents to the birth of Jesus. At a time when their minds are most susceptible to influence, we tell them, the reason they get what they want is because of Jesus. My mom celebrated Christmas every year with tree and lights, but never connected the events to something chimerical. For her, GOD is LOVE and the best she could do was give LOVE to us so when we went out into the world we could understand it and pass it on. - Reply to this comment
- Religions are the political systems of the past.
Just like TIME, GOD is man made.
Deep down in every one of us IS a philosopher. Being philosophers is the source for our humanity. We can predict our own deaths and we hope to predict what happens afterward.
Ending the violence that continues because of religious and political reasons is a very troubling endeavor.
Religion is politics.
Just like time, god is man made.
People only believe what they know and have experienced. An uneducated population is easily exploited for military or political reasons. When an exploited people become polarized they lose track of the philosophical origins and meanings of their religion. The exploited need to return their religious ideals to the original philosophical foundations in order for them to see the complexities that have corrupted the meanings and uses of having a religion.
To reduce violence, we need to forever increase the volume, access and quality of information for all people of Earth. - Reply to this comment

- A test of Faith ..
Each religion claims to have God on *their side*
If there is a God and an airliner carrying a mix of Christians, Muslims, and Jews, crashes with a few survivors, then why are there not more Christian survivors since they *really have God on their side* ?
Should there not have been more *Christian* survivors from 911 than the other religions or in all the tragedies that have ever visited the planet?
If the Bible is the word of God, then why isn't the earth just 6,000 years old? Why are there ****-sapien skeletons that are millions of years old?
If the Bible is the word of God and Christianity is merciful then why does the Bible advocate that all non-believers should be stoned to death - *You must kill him, your hand must strike the first blow putting him to death* (Deuteronomy 13:7-11)?
One cannot pick and choose which portions of the Bible that they believe are the word of God. If one does, they are acknowledging that the Bible is not the word of God and it is not infallible - which, of course, it is not.
If Christianity is tolerant then why the Crusades, the Inquisition and countless other murders and acts of violence against Jews, Muslims, and non-believers?
If Christianity is tolerant then why do Christians believe that unless you are a Christian you will *burn in hell*?
It is time to end the charade about religion. Zeus, Apollo and the Sun gods all came and went. Christianity and other religions are no different. - Reply to this comment

For more information on all atrocities committed in the name of all religions get *End of Faith* and *Letter to a Christain Nation* by Sam Harris.
Just as the notion of the Sun God, Zeus, Apollo and all the other Gods, Christian and all other religious beliefs are invalid.
You do not have to be a person of faith to have values. - Reply to this comment
- "All religions based on peace"
After their centuries of christian destructiveness around the planet, this pope is either a senile joke or just a plain lying hypocrite.
Where is the religion of 'peace' when christians have invaded and destroyed indigenous cultures around the planet and, supported slavery and child sodomy?
As for the islamic insanity,
THE FOUNDER OF THE ISLAMIC INSANITY WAS A SWORD-WIELDING TERRORIST!
How about this statement of 'peace': The founder of the religion of 'peace' goes around chopping heads during his jihad jive runs, and inspire generation of fellow muslim terrorists. LOL - Reply to this comment
- Take your subversive mind rot back to the Vatican POPE BENEDICT ARNOLD

- Sometimes, atrocities were excused as actually being merciful. When a crusader army broke out of Antioch and sent the besieging army into flight, the Christians found that the abandoned Muslim camp was filled with the wives of the enemy soldiers. Chronicler Fulcher of Chartres happily recorded for posterity that "...the Franks did nothing evil to them [the women] except pierce their bellies with their lances."

I won't go into the treatment of heretics and those who DARED challenge church teachings, even those scientists who said the earth CANT be flat or the universe revolve around the earth were jailed or executed.
THIS is the history of the catholic church, it was founded on violence, subversion of women and control of laws, much of which remains today. - Reply to this comment
- Chronicles record a story of a crusader-bishop who referred to the impaled heads of slain Muslims as a joyful spectacle for the people of God.
When Muslim cities were captured by Christian crusaders, it was standard operating procedure for all inhabitants - no matter what their age - to be summarily killed. It is not an exaggeration to say that the streets ran red with blood as Christians reveled in church-sanctioned horrors. Jews who took refuge in their synagogues would be burned alive, not unlike the treatment they received in Europe.
In his reports about the conquest of Jerusalem, Chronicler Raymond of Aguilers wrote that "It was a just and marvelous judgment of God, that this place [the temple of Solomon] should be filled with the blood of the unbelievers." St. Bernard announced before the Second Crusade that "The Christian glories in the death of a pagan, because thereby Christ himself is glorified." - Reply to this comment
This sort of action was not an isolated event - indeed, it was repeated throughout Europe by all sorts of crusading hordes. The lucky Jews were given a last-minute chance to convert to Christianity in accord with Augustine's doctrines. Even other Christians were not safe from the Christian crusaders. As they roamed the countryside, they spared no effort in pillaging towns and farms for food. When Peter the Hermit's army entered Yugoslavia, 4,000 Christian residents of the city of Zemun were massacred before they moved on to burn Belgrade.- Reply to this comment
- religion is based on CONTROL, POWER and MONEY, catholicism was one of the most violent religions around and now the Pope wants to spread this mind rot to a Muslim country.
Religion has in fact done even more to promote base inhumanity when it has become wedded to ruling political powers. It has been a common pattern throughout human history that wherever religious dogmas have gained worldly power, violence was abetted rather than stopped. Even if a person were to successfully argue that none of the violence was caused by religion, the fact would remain that religion not only failed to stop it, but has actually served as a useful tool for those perpetuating it.
Showing a level of rationality consistent with their choice of leaders, Emich's followers decided that before they traveled across Europe to kill God's enemies, it would be a good idea to eliminate the infidels in their midst. Thus suitably motivated, they proceeded to massacre the Jews in German cities like Mainz and Worms. Thousands of defenseless men, women and children were chopped, burned or otherwise slaughtered. - Reply to this comment
- Thanks jhindson1 for your comments. I thought I'm the only one who thinks these religious leaders are total hypocrytical phonies. Glad to know there are others who share my opinion.

- Beautiful outfits for both of them. And those are supposed to be poor... They are meant to represent the naked Humans in front of God. Do they really?

- Notwithstanding that there is no God and Religions are responsible for most of the worlds violence. The Pope could start by applogolizing for the Crusades and other acts of violence against all non-Christians especially the non-believers perpetrated by the Christian faith.

I sure hope Jimmy Kimmel or Leno pick up this picture and do a bit.

It sure could use some humor. - Reply to this comment
- I wonder if the Pope plans to walk from Aya Sofya to the Blue Mosque, or travel in a more secure fashion. They're only a block or two from each other. I would imagine that'd be a big security risk.
