The FAA on Monday grounded all U.S. blackbirds pending an investigat?ion into the cause of the sudden simultaneo?us crash and deaths of 5,000 blackbirds over the skies of Arkansas last Sunday. It's the first time the FAA has grounded an entire species.
NTSB investigat?ors will try and recover the 5,000 black boxes that may hold answers as to why and how the avian aviators dropped out of the sky.
"We've got guys sifting through mass bird carnage? twisted and mangled wings, beaks and feathers. Psychologi?sts have been dispatched to counsel the recovery team? it's not a pretty sight," said NTSB spokesman, Bobby Bryd.
"We're going to recover as much of the birds as possible, take them back to a hanger and try to rebuild each of them wing by wing," Byrd said. "We'll get to the bottom of this."
The Blackbird, one of the avian world's most reliable models, went into service in 2,000 B.C. With a capacity of one passenger, the blackbird has been a workhorse bird making millions of trips daily. The blackbird boasts an impressive safety record with only three crashes in the last 200 years, crashes that were related to unfavorabl?e weather conditions?.
