Glad to see the criminal investigation of Massey Energy, where 29 miners died.

If BP had knowledge that there was going to be an explosion and did not take steps to evacuate...and if 11 people died as a direct result of BP's willful misconduct...that would be murder would it not ?

Seems BP has 'lost' a bunch of data from close to the time of the initial explosion. Willful cover-up ?

My reading of the language that Obama used indicating the US government 'will not tolerate irresponsible behavior' is a wake-up call. It means a criminal probe is coming.

Maybe the first investigations will come from the States? After all it is their duty to do something to protect their citizens from the ongoing harm caused by BP/Transocean/Hallicurton (all forwign companies that pay little or no US tax).

Appropriate to see that Obama, Jindal and others are angry. Hope they have the backbone to pursue justice for the tens of thousands of Americans whose property and businesses are being destroyed by the spill. And, I hope that Obama and other political leaders have the vision and fortitude to launch an Apollo program for alternative energy (and to regulate big oil, coal, nuclear so this does not happen again)...

BP initially announced there were 'only' 1000 barrels leaking per day (for reference a 1/2 inch garden hose will fill a small pool (about 400 barrels) in a day.

I'd like to see the video that would have certainly been made by the robotic subs (ROVs) for the latest 'fix'. No video? Makes you wonder if this is more PR / scam to buy time...

The US should act soon to seize / protect data related to the spill. It will be needed to understand and fix the problem (and prevent future similar issues). And, BP may have an incentive to hide / delete important data...
Trust but verify...lying to Federal Officials is a crime...false reports cause real harm...

The exchange of accusations flew fast and furious among and between these three BS'n CEO bozos. I wager they had colluded on this defensive scenario of: "Let's blame each other and we can further confuse these congresional fools!", right after the last echo of the explosion that took 11 lives and destroyed their rig was heard.
Their scripted, verbal sodomy was a real sphincter opener.
To me it was further proof that what is deemed to be in the best interests of this Country is directly proportional to the satisfaction of the insatiabe greed of the "Special Interests". In this instance, "Big oil"!
I would ban BP from any further drilling rights until they can prove they have come to know what the word "Safety" means. I would also ban ALL future drilling below the average depth of current safe and successful wells.
I would like to hear what part senators, e.g., Nelson(FL), Shelby(AL), and congress-people from TX,LA,MS,AL,FL, whose shorelines and citizens would be threatened by incompetent and unsafe drilling practices, played in evaluating the competence and credibility of BP. Knowing the questionable resumes of BP and, most certainly, Halliburton, what questions did our elected representatives raise about anything?
They are famous for only coming forward to speak up against their "Special Interest", Oil, Coal, Ag, Insurance, etc, contributors(aka proprietors) after-the-fact.
The ex-post-facto gang in action!

There are roughly 4000 drilling rigs and production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Having seen how dangerous the oil drilling industry is first hand, I'm surprized something like this hasn't happened long before now.

This should be a wake up call. The real problems is our unending addiction for oil. Every administration has had opportunities to get of off the band wagon, but none has pursued them because of oil industry control.

The real enemy is, and always has been corporate greed, cost cutting, and indifference. The very unbridled capitalist system you Obama bashing "anti-socialists" advocate is the one that's turning us into a nation of subserviant drones in debt to China, exporting our jobs overseas, and losing our homes and businesses to cold hearted bankers!

Carter tried to initiate an alternative energy program after the '70's oil crisis, but that was soon forgotten when OPEC artificially lowered pump prices and the junkies came running back to the needle. Bush had a perfect opportunity after 911 to drive home the point that our dependence on oil is going to be our downfall and that we must stop underwriting Arab countries supporting terrorism with their oil revenues, and that even if it hurts in the shortrun we must vigorously pursue alternative energy. It was a moment that only comes along once in a thousand years, an angry nation united and aligned, ready to sacrifice and work together... But, what does he do - start wars that have cost us trillions already (and which to his discredit Obama is perpetuating). I'm sure that the fact that Bush and his buddy Dick are heavily endowed with oil money had NOTHING to do with this course of action. Hell, they were ready to open up the Alaskan wilderness reserves for drilling.

So, wake up you sh*t-slinging right wing demagogues... you're feeding the very monster you now malign.

Starting to think that secret energy task force meeting consisted of Cheney telling Big Oil "Do what you want, or don't want to do...in the end, all damage and punitive cases can be shoved to the Supreme Court, and we'll soon OWN them."

The report is called a daily drilling report and is filled out by the tour driller. Sometimes he may not fill it our but every 6-12 hours and is not real-time data. the driller may have died in the explosion but the toolpusher for Transocean and the BP companyman will fill out the same information. Also during any cementing or plugging operation a member of the MMS should have been there to witness any tests - and these companies cannot hide any tests from them. So someone is not telling the truth or is hiding something.

Crazy question but...After the EXXON mess years ago didn't anyone of these companies come up with a plan for these types of messes? Is there anyone out there who could just come and take over and fix this?

Everyday I check out NOAA and today the slick looks to be moving and spreading to my untrained eyes.

Ahhh yes, the "missing" data.

Did you really think we'd buy that after all we've seen?

It's well past time to be making up fake stories. The only option at this point is to tell the truth and get on with it. You all are already in so much trouble it's not even funny. Lying about it now will only make it even more certain that you are punished severely...even with all the Washington corruption.

What do you mean by putting quotations around Jesus' name? Are you trying to be funny, or did you simply learn nothing in all of your grammar classes? I presume, of course, that you attended school...perhaps that is too charitable an assumption.

Presumably that is real time data logging, recording and transmitting of data to onshore. That should be standard with today's technology and there is data missing at the end when you need it most.
porcine_aviator replies:

They probably meant real-time retardation, in reference to the diminishing IQs of their management.

The well logging and other sources of data are SUPPOSED to have multiple redundancies. That such redundancy cannot be found is either incredible negligence or an exercise in @ss-covering.
