Catholic priest and the Pope don't believe in m.a.s.t.u.b.a.t.i.o.n, they preferred abusing innocent children for centuries, we all know that.
Let's jail them all, these guys are true criminal.

I don't condone the actions of either the clergy or the Catholic Church, but I'm a little tired of hearing the victims moan and groan about how molestation has stunted them. I say get on with your lives. I was sexually abused as a child repeatedly by clergy, male relatives, and older boys in the neighborhood, and I found the experience both enjoyable and memorable. Indeed, I looked forward to Saturday nights before evening services and weekday afternoons in the community pool because I knew someone would touch me in ways that felt good. I harbor no ill feelings toward any of them. I think of the experience simply as men and boys being men and boys.

And here we have a comment from one who has a preference for "male companionship". Bend over for Jesus! This is also frowned upon by the Catholic church. Which begs the question, how does pedophilia and homosexuality differ in the eyes of the Catholic church? How can one be completely unacceptable and yet adult male/immature male intercourse, be tolerated?

Actually, I'm a fairly well adjusted, happily married man and father of three. I just don't have the same hangups or need to place blame on others.

If the Pope did not protect children, then how can he call himself a religious, rightous person? How does he sleep at night? Waving at people from a balcony, what good does that do? Shame on all the priests who protect child molesters.

Personally I think the Pope should start selling off some of the treasures. What do they need all that dusty ol' stuff for anyway. There are people suffering and people starving. IMO, the Church would make a better impression of the heart of Christ, if they got rid of their ancient hoard of valuable stuff and set an example in compassion. As well as making restitution.

Do you really have any idea how ill-informed you are about the charitable and compassionate works the Catholic Church and other faiths have done for years and continue doing for the needy all over the world? This includes hospitals, orphanages, food, education, etc. Also, why should the Catholic Church sell off its priceless and historical pieces of art, most of which were donated to them by the faithful? Would you prefer living in a cave where there isn't any culture, such as what the European culture has imparted to humanity, which includes these art works? So, what have you sold off recently of your useless and dusty possessions, or done lately to help those suffering or starving? And in terms of restitution, the Catholic Church has paid out nearly three billion in restitution just in the U.S. even though the statute of limitations ran out on the allegations. It is the minority of Catholic priests who have committed the abuse, not the majority as you have convinced yourself to believe. Your hatred for the Pope and the Catholic Church is quite apparent.

pragmatist1 -Consider this: The Catholic church is the largest land owner in Europe. If it were a corporation its Net Revenues would dwarf Microsoft, IBM and Siemens combined. The Pope preaches modesty, simple living, and sharing of ones good fortune upon those who aren't so fortunate. but yet how many millions of dollars a day does it cost to run the Vatican? How many hundreds of thousands of dollars does the Pope spend on gold threaded robes, the jewelery and opulence.
Hoe many billions of dollars a year does the church spend on its own frivolity instead of supporting the good work that other sacrifice their lives for?

Hey, if you ain't Catholic, you ain't getting a greasy dime. By the way where is the Catholic Church and it charity in Haiti now? It is sad sad thing to see the Church of Scientology has done more to help the Haitians than the Catholic Church. And the Haitians are predominately Catholic. And by the way Catholic church, your help with the Haitian famine and the lost children being traded into slavery has done wonders for your reputation for helping the poor, the meek and the helpless children. Oh yeah, bend over kid....

It's amazing to me that Christian churches have been so ineffective in handling sex abuse cases. I've read stories about the Amish who also choose ineffective methods of punishment, and even go so far as to persecute the victim. For what? That's the part I don't get.

These are extremely serious matters and yet the leadership is pretty much "out to lunch" when it comes to dealing with it. It doesn't take half a brain to understand that this is criminal behavior. Immoral. Not Christian behavior. But it does warp the perception of Christianity, for many. And that's totally tragic.

I'm not going to let the hypocrites keep me from faith in God. They are what they are, which is really bad: even the Bible quotes Jesus as condemning these sort of people: pedophiles, or anyone who preys on children. It was the worst threat Jesus made. He indicated that the punishment they've got coming is worse than we can imagine. So if Jesus spoke that strongly about it, why doesn't the Church take their responsibility seriously?

"... So if Jesus spoke that strongly about it, why doesn't the Church take their responsibility seriously..."

It sounds like you have little understanding of Jesus to ask a question like that. Jesus didn't much care for the churches of his time, and even prophesied the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem, which eventually happened.

tmittelstaed This same Jesus said: "Out of the human heart comes evil thoughts, murder, adultery, SEXUAL IMMORALITY, theft, slander." Matt.15:19 It's not a religious organization that he is condemning, but the sinfulness within the hearts of every human being, who has a heart that is.

RCC_Soldaten Please read these facts......
Two Wisconsin bishops urged the Vatican office to let them conduct a church trial against Rev. Lawrence Murphy, but the Vatican ordered the process halted, church and Vatican documents show.
Think about it, would you go to the local police, about the evil deeds of your parish priest????
RCC_Soldaten...stop defending evil deeds of Roman priests, if they are guilty of criminal behavior they should be punished in our State's civil courts.

If the priests, bishops, cardinals and pope had even the smallest iota of honor, dignity and compassion for the church and themselves, but foremost for the abuse victims, they would immediately resign. Their nearly universal inaction, ducking for cover and shielding one another shows how deep and sweeping this scandal is.

You think these guys are going to give up the gigs they've got? Not even if h'll freezes over. Frankly I think a lot of them are guilty of abuse themselves, including ol' Popey, and in their positions, they have a steady stream of young meat to play with. Get it. It's a club.
