This ought to work. I wonder if he should have been sentenced to 280 years behind bars instead of 140 years. A life sentence means nothing, indeed a life sentence is not a life sentence. To make it a life sentence we must add a whole lot of years. There has to be something wrong here somewhere.

Better life without chance of parole. If he had gotten the dealth penalty, he would have sat on death row up to 30 years, and possibly not been exceuted then. He'll miss that nice quiet cell on death row after a few days with the general population. Now, all we can hope for is there were no mistakes in the trial so he doesn't have to be re-tried at the expense of the taxpayer.

I agree he should be kept away from society but not necessarily in a prison. Society was not protected from his lack of treatment and I agree with Randy's statement:
Randy Gardner, a mental health professional who was also shot that day, disputed reports that said Loughner was "forcibly" medicated. He said Loughner was given medication and accepted it.

"This is sad. This is tragic. This young man was treatable," he said in a press conference after the shooting. "This state has cut back in mental health ... This is security and we need to take care of ourselves."

Imagine knowing you will be in prison the rest of your life. Behind the same bars every day and every night. Knowing that nothing will ever change for you. Every holiday, birthday and any other date that is special to you, will be the same. You will never again jump in a car and go out to dinner, a movie or go shopping. No more meeting friends at the local bar or club. Just that same old cell, night after night after night. The same routine, the same cell. You can't remodel your room and change the color of your walls. What a wonderful punishment it is. To condemn him to death, would be relief to that person. He knows his time in hell will be short lived. Death will take away this unbearable routine he will be forced to live. Get up at the same time each morning, eat in the same place, and fear for your life in prison. This is much worse than giving the death penalty. Also it is cheaper to keep them than to give out the death sentence. The cost of lawyers, appeal process, etc., is for more costly and ends their miserable life too soon. Let the suffer.

How ridiculous! Seven consecutive life sentences plus 140 years behind bars? If it were to mean anything, one life sentence would suffice. Of course, our 'life' sentences mean next to nothing. But it gets a bit silly to sentence a person to seven consecutive life sentences plus 140 years. This may please some people, revenge is ours! I wonder what the sentence might have been if he had not shot a female congress person. Although he intended to he did not kill her. I recall a number of years ago a Georgia murderer was sentencd to 140 years with explanation that any sentence of less years would permit possible parole after 20 years. Ridiculous!

It cost somewhere around $75,000 a year to keep criminals like this in prison. If it life for him, lets hope it's super short. He doesn't deserve the hard paid money of tax payers to keep his sorry butt fat an happy.

I think congress should vote Secret Service protection for all its members. Two agents per representative and senator should do.

My respects to Mr. Kelly, but two agents would have prevented this tragedy.
