Poor guy. You can see the intelligence in his eyes. I know his future life in jail will be nowhere near as good as his past three years of freedom. As for the bite & scratch to a resident, I'll wager the person did something stupid, like trying to grab or touch him. Wild animals will tolerate you if you prove to be no threat, but never try to approach them. I remember my cousin lived in a mountain wooded area for 30 years feeding many generations of wild raccoons. They were trusting enough to come and dine within a couple of feet of him & us even as visitors. They were beautiful & intelligent animals, but still wild and to try to touch them would invite near certain injury.
This is not a time to make political jokes, shame on those of you who said disparaging comments; regardless of party affiliation.
Catching this macaque was of great importance since he could have harbored a potentially fatal virus that when contracted by a human usually causes death. So to catch him was very important and he will hopefully be placed in a facility where he can be with others macaques.
He looks very healthy from being free. Give him a couple of years in a cage and he won't look that good, nor will he be as happy. Shame they caught him. He seem to be handling his life very well on his own.
