17,000 members? Most towns where I am have a population of 3,000 - 4,000. Not surprised a child predator is there when the church is as large a city, but that is why they need plans in place for reporting people like this.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone.

All of humanity should be ashamed of our acceptance of religious superstition and its elevation to an undeserved status.

It is astounding that otherwise intelligent people allow their lives to be governed by superstitions of ignorant, primitive tribalists from 2,000 years and longer ago.

Our culture and the world are dominated by these sick cults. They keep humanity in a perpetual state of war; promote ignorance and superstition while accruing wealth, power and sexual gratification from their willing victims.

It is past time for humanity to leave religion to our primitive past.
Religion poisons everything, beginning with childhood.

I believe that scientists have isolated a human gene defect that causes the person and any descendants to be of below average intelligence, given to excessive gullibility, prone to wild religious beliefs with a propensity to self-righteous mob-violence such as genocide and war. And that once isolated from the population, they were placed on this planet 70,000 years ago. Hey, at least my Creation Theory fits the observations.

Yes, perfectly stated, agree on every point. Money and religion are the root of all evil.
