This is a liberals view of comprise. 16% pay raise over 4 yrs with a 2% cola, continued 24:1 class and no accountability for their performance. And what do the students get...... a 50% chance at graduating. Yea, compromise.

China produced over 50 million computer engineers and scientists

You've posted this BS on at least 3 different sites today alone. Repeating things over and over does not make them true. It is a lie, got it?

China between 2000 and 2009 produced 1.59 million scientists and engineers. That's it.

What does 'Framework' mean? That the taxpayer still gets screwed, the teachers won't be held accountable and students don't learn jack?

You clearly are misinformed, and have no idea what a teacher's job entails. Teachers salary averages have been going down over the past several years, due to the retirement of many of the "elder" teachers. The average teacher now makes approximately $55,000 a year depending on where you work. Teachers work, on average, 60-75 hour weeks. This includes the time they teach in the classroom, plan and create the materials for their lessons, and grade. The average American with a full time job works, approximately, 2080 hours a year. Teachers work 10 months a year, which works out to about 83% of the total months. BUT, if they work the low end (60 hrs a week) of hours for teachers to be truly prepared to teach a quality lesson, they would then be working 2589.6 hours per year. That's 509.6 hours more than the average taxpaying American, and in only 83% of the time.

Teachers are held accountable for the test scores of other student in the "wealthy world," but the rest of the wealthy world does not have the same education system we have in America. In America, we teach all students regardless of ability or IQ. In other countries there is a test prior to high school which determines whether students go to a college prep or a trade school. They then only test the college prep students. It's no wonder why our scores aren't as good. We test all students in high school. This includes the special ed students and the students who aren't going and don't want to go to college.

Teachers get paid significantly less than those with equally important private sector jobs, and they get dumped on by the general, and often misinformed, public. People often forget, they wouldn't be where they are or be making as much money as they do if they hadn't learned much of what they know from a quality teacher.

Wow good for the teachers. They'll get a 16% raise over 4 years, plus annual cost of living increase of 2% annually. That raise will be financed by tax payers. Now the average taxpayer won't be getting a 16% raise over the next 4 years nor a 2% annual cost of living increase. In fact for the typical american, household income is down $4k over the past 4 years and nothing to suggest that trend will change. But the unions got their raise, and that's all that matters.

After the union delegates vote to either accept/reject the contract offer, the people of Chicago should be allowed to vote to either accept/reject the contract, since they are the ones that must pony up the money to pay for it!

Does that also mean after the politicians give themselves a raise, that the public should have a vote on that to. It's the taxpayers that have to pay for those raises to.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel argues it's unfair to hold principals accountable for their schools' performance if they can't pick their own teams.

Isn't that like saying it's unfair to hold teachers accountable for test scores if they can't pick their own students!
