The teachers say they are striking for the kids. However, the negotiations don't seem to be about not enough toilet paper in the schools or the air conditioning needs. The points the teachers bring up are no evaluations, salary and too many hours. And the pictures being published are of teachers laughing , dancing and having a good time rather than marching a picket line with serious slogans. Look at today's Tribune--it's hard to tell who are the prancing teachers and who are the gleeful students. This strike is for the children?----I don't think so. I'm a union sympathizer---but this is not a strike I support.

The Chicago Teachers Union strike puts Barack Obama in an awkward spot, and deservedly so. The President and his party are restrained from doing or saying the right thing because of their flawed ideology and political patronage to big labor. This union action wholly vindicates the policies of Scott Walker in his efforts to control the abuses of public employee unions in his state.

"Already, there are some parents who don't understand why teachers would not readily accept a contract offering a 16 percent raise over four years — far more than most American employers are giving in the aftermath of the Great Recession."

Seems like greed to me...
Not living in Today's world and wants to keep entitlements..
And these are the values they are teaching our children.

Fire them all! Then rehire the good ones at the current rate. The rest can try to find any job that has that kind of pay and benefits. I'm sure in this "recovering economy" they won't have any problems finding better jobs. Let the kids do community service work while they are out of class. I would guess there is enough work they could do in a town like Chicago.
