By definition anyone who is intolerant of the owner of Chick fil a having his opinion or his belief on gay 'marriage' is a bigot. Bigotry is an awful thing. Just because someone doesn't share you're belief or opinion it sure doesn't make that person a bigot. You're a bigot if you spout off about how horrible the other person's belief or opinion is. My opinion on gay marriage is irrelevant. My opinion for each of us to have the freedom to express our opinion free from the fear of any kind of harm is something I'd hope all Americans would share. Unfortunately reading what's been posted I'm noticiing that there seems to be little tolerance for anyone who doesn't share the same opinion.

Definition of BIGOT

And when you fire people for being gay, you discriminate - which violates the Constitution. Hold to your values all you want, but using your money and power to harm others isn't very Christian. Historic precedent notwithstanding.

excellent comment and well said.. this land's foundation eventually would lend itshelf to freedoms.. some nayasayer americans -really need to think about this premise-the idea became a reality for all AMERICANS..

..if you don't like the freedoms under the laws of this land..then maybe you might consider moving to another nation that suits your beliefs of hatred against freedoms as offered here to ALL AMERICANS and expiats residing in America..

I think some of us can respect others to disagree. I even respect the opinion of the CEO - Cathy. But there has been a lot of 'hate' talk from many people. I do think hate talk leads to physical violence - and this where I draw the line of "free speech".

To my knowledge, the Cathey family has not discriminated against gays or anyone else in any way, and I have lived in Atlanta since 1983.

Anyone understand equal rights? Ignorance has people spending $ to confront/support/demonstrate over ONE businessman's opinion on marriage.

Marriage does not belong to the government to defend or deny.
Marriage belongs to the people, gay, straight, religious or atheist.

Hang onto your money and pride at being an American. Compromise and tolerance of others rights and privacy.

I am decended from Indian, Scot, Irish and German ancestry...and as long as we fight the rich man's economic wars and squabble over morals...we lose the middle class struggle we are engaged in to better our family life.

Get over the media/business stimulation to avoid the economic mess business has pushed us towards for trying to keep from paying a living wage....

You want the American Dream...?? STOP letting politicians and business push your buttons...and protect your family from hate-mongering politicians whose agenda has nothing to do with job creation or actually rolling back the tax burden from WORKING AMERICANS. Do not support the ultra rich to protect their empires of wealth and recognize the Citizen's United decision of the US Supreme Court in its decision that allows corporate businesses approach to controlling America with hidden wealth to political parties and candidates. Stop the buying of America by the 1%

kkltr76 After reading all the HATE I see everywhere in the comments sections of websites you ask this question. ie "Failing that, I hope the Joker starts showing up at their gay rallies."

Why do gays feel offended so easily? Just substitute the word GAY for CHRISTIAN and see how it feels! Yes I AM OFFENDED AND PISSED OFF!
------------------------------------------------------------

Your statement is a bit confusing. There is almost nothing in Christian literature condemning homosexuality. There are reports of it such as Romans 1:26-27, but the harsh condemnation of it comes in the Old Testament reflecting Hebraic beliefs, not Christian. It is not mentioned in any of the Gospels. Jesus never mentioned it and it remains unmentioned in Book of Acts, in Hebrews, in Revelation, in none of the letters of James, Jude, Peter or John. There is total silence about the subject in ten of Paul's thirteen letters.
In 1 Corinthians 6:9 it talks about the kind of people who will not "inherit the kingdom of God." It's a long list including drunks, robbers, thieves, adulterers, and then the words appear that many churches interpret as homosexuals but literally translate to mean, "male prostitutes."
I say this not only to you but to all those claiming offense to their Christian principles without recognizing that none of the Christian mandates include homosexuality.
When speaking of same-sex marriage, I share your opposition but do so for personal principles since I am not religious.

expatriate2 - thank you for the good question. The book of Romans does mention homosexuality as do other parts of the bible. But the bible also condemns MANY other things as well. If you are going pick one topic in the bible to gripe about (homosexuality) you are, as the bible says, to live BY ALL THE LAW' Galatians 5. Not all Christians believe the same and I respect that. I don't live according to biblical old testament law - that is where most Christians miss it.

kkltr76 "Who the hell cares Can't people form an opinion without having to use the bible to strengthen their opinions?"

Most "so called" Christians care - they use the bible to beat up their victims. Other Christians care what the bible says. And yes, you can form your own opinion without the bible. But I guarantee you, the culture around you has been heavily influenced by the bible. I lived in the South where I almost felt like I was a Christian simply by living there.

- A Chick-fil-A restaurant in Martinsburg, West Va. Was evacuated after someone called in a bomb threat.
- Another protester in Tucson posted video of him berating a young female cashier at an undisclosed restaurant.
- A Chick-fil-A restaurant in Torrance, Calif. was hit by vandals overnight who spray painted the words "Tastes like hate" on a back wall.
