newster90210 - your comments really show lack of understanding between the difference in making a decision to get into a car and it ending tragically and doing something innocent, where another person makes a decision that they want to end your life. Firstly, the same number of people died in this accident as in the shooting. Secondly, those people all made the decision to get into a car that was clearly overloaded, resulting in a dangerous situation. That doesn't mean it isn't tragic, but it does mean that they (execpt for the children) entered the bed of a truck by themselves. The thearer goers in Aurora went to the movies. They didn't do anything to put themselves in harms way. A lunitic made a decison to take an automatic weapon, designed to do as much damage as possible and kill as many innocent people as possible. Are you really so narrow minded that you can't see the glaring differences here?

Goliad, TX is north of Corpus Christi and is 162 miles from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Look on Google Maps, and stop assuming what has happened or what will happen. A lot of people died unnecessarily.

Google, to be precise, shows that the tragedy occurred near the unincorporated community of Berclair, Texas,142 miles from the Mexican border - where Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and Laredo, Texas meet - and 172 miles from downtown Houston. The story was datelined Goliad, the closest town to the accident - it is 16 miles closer to Houston, and further from Laredo. The accident occurred off US 59, which runs straight from Laredo to Houston. I am making no assumptions here - I am merely clarifying the facts of the matter. It is a tragedy. And why were 23 people in one truck? Probably because that was the only transportation that they had at the time.

All these comments and no, "oh, I am sorry for their loss and the loss of their loved ones". It is getting utterly embarrassing how people treat Mexican's in this country. Illegal or not, they are HUMAN! Eleven HUMAN beings lost their lives and all we can do is make fun of so many in a truck and make jokes??? SAD! SICK! DISGUSTING! Some of those killed were children. Keep your heartless comments to yourselves!

I was not "making fun" of anyone or anything. It doesn't matter to me if they were Mexicans, "Boston Brahmins" or Aleutians. For all I know, they were all local kids who'd gotten drunked up on a Sunday afternoon and decided to go for a joy ride.

I'm still trying to figure out how in the world you even get 23 people in a Ford F-250. Never mind manage to drive it even 10 miles without getting pulled over.

People living in our southern border States have become somewhat jaded when it comes to illegal aliens being killed or injured while illegally entering our country. This is not an isolated incident by any means. The only reason this even made the news was simply because of the outlandishly stupid way these people were injured or killed.

Groups of illegal aliens dying from suffocation and heat stroke while packed/hidden in semi trailers. Groups dying from dehydration and exposure trying to cross the Sonora desert. Being left to fend for themselves when the untrustworthy coyotes decide they've taken their charges far enough. The scenarios, deaths and injuries go on and on and ...

If our southern border was secure these stories would dwindle to an insignificant few. As long as the only risk to entering our country illegally is a free ride back to the border, we in the Border States will continue see these stories almost daily.

Your comment is an absolutely ignorant statement, yes this was a tragedy, but they knew the consequences of packing a pickup with that many people, thinking they would get away with it like many have before them. They knew what they were doing was wrong and illegal The people in Auroa were absolutely innocent people who went to a movie with friends and family, and were ambushed by this psychopath, HUGE difference. While those killed in TX have loved ones who are grieving and need compassion for their loss, they to knew what they were doing was wrong, it all goes back to personal responsibility for your actions. They were trying to enter this country illegaly, cramming as many people in a truck as possible to committ an illegal act, attempting to out run the law in no way compares to what the shooter planned and prepared for. The president did the absolute right thing by showing the people of Colorado that he is a compassionate MAN, who just happens to be the President of the US who wanted them to know, that he like many other people are devastated by this mans actions and wanted to do the right thing by showing his personal heartfelt compassion to the loved ones left behind. There are good and bad in all politics, I find it very hard to believe that this was politically motivated, it was a man who wanted to show love and support to a community that has been devastated. Innocent people that bought tickets to see a movie in no way compares to a truck load of people trying to get away with an illegal act. They knew the risks involved when they trusted scum coyotes trying to make a quick dollar and didn't care what could happen and were willing to take that chance, they put theirs and their childrens lives in danger knowing full well that there was a clear and present danger in what they were doing. The people going to the movie had absolutely no way to expect that some idiot had preplanned their deaths. I disagree with a lot of political acts by either party, but this was a human being trying to tell them that they mattered and he represented what many Americans feel in their hearts, and for you to imply it was all a re-election campaign stunt shows your ignorance, proving you have no compassion to the innocent victims in this situation. Hope you never have a loved one killed just going about their daily business because you can't see the travesty one person did for his own selfish reason, what ever that may be and this is exactly what is wrong with this nation, take an act of kindness by the leader of this country by implying it was a political campaign stunt, small minded people like you are exactly what is wrong with this country, no compassion. You are the one politically motivated by you callous statement.

Sydonia,

It isn't "an absolutely ignorant statement." What SilkyDog wrote -- Obama doesn't have a chance to win in Texas but Colorado is still up for grabs -- is a fact. What you wrote --The president did the absolute right thing by showing the people of Colorado that he is a compassionate MAN -- is nothing but your opinion.
