I feel sorry for Joe Paterno and his family. Back in that day and time there were lots of claims of sexual harrassment, molestation and whatever both true and false. (Lots of people seeking "revenge" on someone would make a claim that they "knew" or "saw" something.) My employer at the time sent all of us employees to a seminar on the subject and we were INSTRUCTED to report any and all of these cases to our Human Resources or Corporate Administration. That's what we were SUPPOSED to do. Especially if you did not WITNESS the situation yourself. I think Joe trusted those people he turned the situation over to and felt THEY knew how to handle these things better than he did. (lots of law suits were flying around back then) McQueary on the other hand professes to have WITNESSED something. HE could have done something. He SHOULD have done something. He wasn't in fear of losing his job. He was a lousey little "assistant" coach who wasn't even very good at that and was going nowhere and he knew it. Why would anybody just take his word for it???? Turn it over to the ADMINISTRATION for INVESTIGATION. THOSE are the people who tried to cover it up to save the School's reputation, NOT Joe Paterno.

You are right on target, rightontarget!
I've been saying the exact same thing since the university made the decision to throw Joe under the bus.

Read the investigation report buddy. Joe Paterno was the person who convinced others to cover up.

They ALL should have done something! I wonder if Paterno's grandkid would have been one of the molested boys (or any one who knew what was going on for that matter ) would he/they report it then? Paterno is just as guilty as all the other men who worked there and DID NOTHING. They did wrong by those boys by keeping their mouths shut!

I agree with the Paterno family.

Paterno's role in this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion!

Joe's greatness is all about the football program, not Sandusky's homosexual, pedophilic activities.

Joe did make a good scapegoat for the university, with his notoriety and all.

The more the Paterno family denies any responsibility, the more guilty they becomes. My advice is man up, accepting responsibility and ask for forgiveness. Not that it's going forgiven but gosh, it's not about the Paterno's reputation (there's none), it's about the children betrayed by the hypocrites like Paterno et al.

He is just as guilty as the rapist! His family has to accept the shame. Probably better he died before he went to prison.
How pathetic to see students at that school trying to stand up for him and crying over school officials removing his so-called "great" status. I am sure some of the students were just as guilty...walking in on a rape and saying 'oops, sorry to inturrupt - please continue'.

The family does not want to believe their father/husband would do such a thing. But truth is he did and they know he did the cover up. Their is no way he did not talk about it during throuhout the years even if only with his wife. They are just trying to save his reputation. Truth his he is no better than Sandusky because he did nothing about it and he could have. He is just as big a scum as Sandusky. If he was such a stand up guy he would not have allowed it to happen as long as it did. Sandusky was not a friend he was a abusive and sexual predator. In other words scumb.
