I can't imagine anyone so stupid to point at Romney as a culprit for this tragedy, the supporters of Obama know he has been driving the ship for over 3 years and still they refuse to see the direction the Country is taking, the Housing market and problems with the economy can and would be indicated if we had not de-regulated all of the offices of banking, and finance. when the Government allows it's tax base to abandon the nation it supported and use tax payers money to shift industry to China this is what happens the real culprit the "Dept. of Defense", has failed miserably.
I live in a city where the unemployment just dipped below 6% and will continue to fall with a new cancer center(6,000 jobs) and casino (2,000 jobs)set to open in the next year. Housing sales were up 20% last month, all our rec centers and city pools are open and money is being invested to upgrade them. We have free trash pick-up, free yard waste removal and free recycling. We've added 4 new parks in the past three years and while other cities were laying off firefighters and police, we were adding them. How did we do that? In 2009 our local leaders (all Dems) realized that if we wanted to maintain our way of life we would need to raise taxes. The voters agreed and we raised our city income tax a 1/2 a cent, now our city is flush with cash and is even a better place to live than it was before the recession. It costs me an extra $5. a week to live in a nice city but its been well worth the cost. Columbus Ohio.
It won't last long, none of it. You are describing the boom bust cycle to a T. Check the net, cancer centers are going up everywhere and so are casinos. Atlantic city just put their casinos under the direction of the state of NJ, and the casinos and malls are for sale or closing while the town is drowning in debt.
didn't vallejo, ca file for bankruptcy before stockton? can't understand ca wanting to build the bullet train at the cost of billions when ca is in such a mess. wonder how many people ca has on welfare or any other public assistance paid by state taxpayer monies. ca has many wealthy people and probably most down around the los angeles and san diego areas. don't get california's politics at the state legislature where decisions are made, bills passed, laws enacted.
'Another one bites the dust', eh?? They might be able to salvage it, but Governor Moonbeam and the foolish clowns in their Democrat-controlled government already blew the money on the train to nowhere, criminal immigrants, and moving that big rock. Looking at them from a different State, though, I've got to thank them for all of the great entertainment!!
The irony is Schwarznegger reduced the debt from 25 billion to less than 9 billion. Brown took office and he is a tough cookie but the tax revenues plunged so much, lost business etc the deficit ballooned back up to 16 billion. What Brown has been doing is grabbing the money any of these cities and states have in the bank to run the state triggering these cities and town to file for bankruptcy.
Three CA cities in bankruptcy, Scranton dropping city workers pay to minimum wage inspite of a court order. This story is just getting started. And the dumb half of the US elecorate will continue to vote for the representatives of the top 5% on the socio-economic scale, because that's who dad and grand-dad voted for.
Since when was the "govenator" a Dem? Show me a state with cities going bankrupt that isn't locked in a budget battle with a bunch of entitled GOP filth that isn't going bankrupt? The problem isn't Dems, there are a lot of Dem states and the GOP states couldn't pay their bills if it weren't for the net tax revenue flow FROM Blue TO Red states. The issue is when a bunch of GOP filth wants to try to bankrupt states and cities rather than raise their own taxes.
david, hit the nail on the head. Most of the 'budget problems' have come from Republicans being willing to give businesses extreme tax breaks that bankrupt states.

Current federal debt = 16 Trillion, doesn't include state and local shortfalls.
