My family has military, police, fire, and medical professionals in our ranks, this has NEVER happened here. When I moved out of the house in'75,we firearms in cabinets,on the walls,in boxes and closets, not once do I recall anything like this.
This cop is partially (a large part) responsible for her death because he was carrying that weapon in a VERY dangerous manner. His police department should have provided better training, but even though they did not, the cop should have trained himself in how to use that weapon like an expert. A properly carried weapon is almost impossible to fire accidentally.
"His police department should have provided better training, but even though they did not..."
You don't know that they did not. The chances are they did, but that doesn't mean the cops, or anyone that has been trained, will do what they are supposed to do. There are thousands of unstable, incompetent people out there. You should know that by reading your news every day.
There is no safety on a pistol. Even if the hammer was cocked, the trigger cannot be pulled while holstered. There is something fishy about this story.
You are one of the number who really needs to 1 get educated and 2 stay away from firearms.Gun locks are not used while carrying a weapon, only when it is stored. Thus keeping any unathorized use or tampering from happening.Responsible in homes with children.
Hmmmmm I guess doughnuts cause a person to carry a loaded weapon which is cocked with the safety off. Doughnut eaters should be restricted to double action only....NO CLICK CLICK!!
Only shooters will know what I an talking about..lol
hard to tell from this story what caliber the gun was or if it was a revolver or a semi-auto. there are shoulder holsters where the weapon is housed in a horizontal position, not pointing down. the holster is between the armpit and the elbow. unless someone is on duty or in a high crime area, there is nor reason to have a round chambered. can't make a reasonable assumption from this article, not enough information.
Obviously neither of you are thinking logically. This can very easily have happened if the off duty officer was wearing a concealed shoulder holster. Shoulder holster, guns pointed backwards.... A hug from behind could have put enough force on the weapon to make it move and discharge. Standing behind him she, unfortunately, was in the path of the bullet.... Very sad no matter how it happened
Real strange! a holstered gun faces DOWN towards your feet, there's something we aren't being told here, there's no way hugging someone standing up is going to make a holstered gun go off and UPWARD! Also, a gun like the Smith and Wesson Airweight 38 has a very heavy and long pull on the trigger, you cant accidentally pull that trigger. Either this guy had his gun in upside down in his belly holster, and the hammer cocked, or a detail is missing.

How does a holstered gun fire upwards and hit someone in the lungs? Unless she was down on her knees hugging something else when he went off?
