Spain is the country that gave that land to Mexico, 35 years before the U.S. took it. During that 35 years, Mexico didn't establish a single town or village. During the time BEFORE the Spaniards came, Mexico didn't establish ANY settlements within the U.S. The Indian tribes raided into the U.S., taking livestock and slaves from the other Native American tribes and in the process, wiping out whole tribes of people. So, get off your high horse about what "America stole" from Mexico or any other country. That was more than 100 years ago. We are talking NOW, when we have laws as to who can come into our country, the same as Mexico has laws as to who can come into their country. If you don't like our laws, let's use Mexico's. They shoot illegal aliens, on sight when they catch them crossing the border

How about some real history instead of the whitewash job found in U.S. history textbooks? First of all, nehicks, Spain did not "give" Mexico away, Mexicans fought against Spain from 1810 to 1821 to gain their independence. Your claim that the Mexicans did not establish a single town or city in the pursuing 35 years is complete nonsense. Why should they form towns? They had cities from Texas to California that included what is now San Antonio, Nacadoches, etc. Building more is not a measure of their progressiveness. And what does Indian raids have to do with the issue?

It was then that Polk and his corrupt administration planned to start a conflict on the disputed border and have a reason to invade Mexico. They sent U.S. soldiers on the border to provoke the Mexican troops and when a skirmish occurred, the invasion began with the bombardment of Veracruz that led to the occupation of almost all of Mexico. To get the gringos to leave, Mexico ceded the territory Polk demanded and later, as an insult and to look good in international eyes, the U.S. paid half of what it originally offered, $15 million. The plan was so corrupt that Polk admitted that if no skirmish had taken place, he still would have invaded.

In reality, the Spaniards had only 600 men but they brought diseases for which the Indians had no immunity. Disease conquered the Aztecs, not the Spaniards. Even then, it wasn't that much of a conquest. The Spanish and Indians mixed and formed the Metizos or the Mexicans of today. So much for stupid reasoning as see through stupid glasses.

Tp all of you folks who don't care what happened to these people, consider this: If you were a Mexican, trapped in poverty with no hope, I guarantee you that you would try to cross the border for a better life. I guarantee you that.
I wonder how many of these people are in the states because their ancestors did something illegal. I know I have a XXXX grandmother in my tree that came over as an indentured servant probably because she broke the law in some way.
I'm confused. These people get blamed for paying no taxes yet are they self employed? Who do they work for and why do these employers not take taxes out of their paychecks?
I think many of you need some quiet time to really think about this issue because if you did, you would find the illegals are not the biggest portion of this problem, it's the employers that are trying to get cheap labor, evade taxes and pull a fast one on the rest of us.
A lot of them are self-employed; in New Mexico, a large number of them qualify for state and Federal aid - Food stamps, welfare, free healthcare; a large number of them have popped out American born children so qualify for WIC and Aid to Dependent children. Even though those categories of money are small, it's 1000% better than many of them had in their home countries. So, it's easy for them to live here. Yes, employers should be jailed for providing jobs to these people. If they have a social security number, it's probably stolen and the employers should be jailed for aiding and encouraging these people to stay within the U.S., as that is against the law too. Churches should also be fined for doing this, too.
Lloyd, They most likely weren't "waved through". They cross the border in remmote locations in small groups. Then they assemble at a pre-arranged place and a van comes to pick them up.

The obvious question pops up.....How is it that the Border Patrol, whose main function is to intercept mass border crossings such as this one, apparently waved them on through?
The Border Patrol didn't "wave" them through. When they stopped the van, one person jumped out and took off running. Then, the driver of the van just sped off, rolling the van a few blocks away.
If the police had not pursued the van, the accident would not have happened and the undocumented workers would still be alive. Just because someone looks suspicious does NOT mean you should follow them and ask their intentions. That can lead to death. (sarc)
Apparently they WERE here ILLEGALLY or the van would NOT have sped off. If you have nothing to hide then there is no reason you should mind being stopped. Don't really care what happened to them. They should not have been here in the first place. They chose to make a run for it so tough ****.
