Really? There is a paranoia amongst many gun owners that some are trying to take your rights away. The current administration has done absolutely nothing to infringe on your right. Yet, you run around like chicken little screaming the sky is falling. I'm a liberal and have many weapons, and I have no fear that the government is trying to take my right away. Folks who believe there is such an effort underway obviously have no critical thinking skills, and blindly follow the leadership of the NRA. Baaaaaaaa.

Good points, Raptor. My views are spread across the political spectrum if there is such a thing (now, the ultra radical right will interpret that as I'm not a conservative, and I suppose the left will say the opposite - fact is, I detest labels because they are meaningless). That said, I consider myself a middle or moderate Democrat. (Hey right wing! I shoot with dozens of guys who are Democrats - imagine that!)

But as a gun owner (long guns and handguns) and very active participant in the shooting sports, I do not detect any effort by Obama to take away my guns (a guy with an "F" rating from the Brady Bunch, btw). In fact, Obama's only foray into "gun control" was to expand areas where gun owners are permitted to possess firearms.

From what I hear at various ranges where I shoot and in gun shops in my area, and read on countless gun blogs, one would think 2A was abolished and jack booted storm troopers were on their way to my house.

I have owned firearms since I was 12 (a very long time ago) and never have I witnessed the paranoia, fueled by the NRA and other gun lobby organizations, conspiracy theorists, and other wack jobs. (Who have all made ammo hard to come by). To be clear - the NRA is not so concerned about 2A as it is about selling guns on behalf of gun manufacturers. The Second Amendment is merely used as a tool to inflame the membership. Otherwise, it is the NRA top brass and board members who reap the benefits of free, high-end guns from manufacturers and trips around the world for hunting and other activities.

Next thing you know those LIBERALS over at the CDC are going to tell us that over 10,000 per year are murdered with a gun and that more people are killed with a gun in this country in 7 weeks than has been killed in the entire Iraq war....wait, wait forget that. What I meant to say is "guns don't kill people, people kill people".

I wonder if any surveys considered the use of a gun either on the original carrier or by the carrier under a concern that his gun could be used against him if he did not act first. In other words does the mere presence of a gun increase the possibility of it's use by any party involved?

are you serious. "does the mere presence of a gun increase the possibility of it's use by any party involved?" think about your question. Here's some help.... how many guns are used if no guns are present?
