I'm beginning to wonder if the U.S. media isn't asleep at the switch. There's been so much coverage of this since Bales was returned to the U.S. - and ALL of that coverage focuses blame on Bales as the sole gunman. But, while the U.S. has been investigating this incident, so has the Afghan government. And what their investigation uncovered is completely different than what the U.S. alleges happened.

According to Pajhwok Afghan News, an Afghan parliamentary probe concluded that between 15-20 U.S. soldiers, divided into two teams, were involved in the massacre -

- So, it could be that Bales was "singled out" to become the "fall guy" - to take the blame for an operation that involved many soldiers (possibly even superiors). Perhaps U.S. journalists should spend less time interviewing U.S. military people and more time interviewing Afghans closest to the massacre site - this is assuming the U.S media is really interested in the truth.

The link to the Pajhwok Afghan News article in my prior post was skewed. Let's see if this works better:

This is going to be the turning point where the US shows the world that we are not hypocrites. This Panjwai massacre trial is not going to be a sham trial like that of the Mylai Massacre where Lt Calley served 3 1/2 years of house arrest for mercilessly slaughtering Vietnamese women and children. This is where we show the world that we have the balls to practice what we preach, and that a "war criminal" is a "war criminal" regardless of country of origin.

Not....

Why not look at all the good and well this soldier was so trained to do and has done. Now everyone wants to blame and look at some dark past. Satan meant this for evil Allah meant this for good. Let the Good flourish, dont let evil flourish. This soldier went over and beyond the call of duty. Those that died went to Paradise. Allah receive them into Paradise. La Illaha Ila La. Although you might want to look at those who trained this Soldier.

Mr Conway's comment about the "best predictor of future violence is past violence" is the most telling point of the article. There were signs that Mr Bales had issues...there are ALWAYS signs, yet everyone always chooses to ignore them. He should be charged with 16 counts of first degree murder, no mitigating circumstances, and serve life in jail with no parole.--BTW. if you are over 5'9". see T-A-L-L-C-H-A-T-C_O_M. "Dark past"??? It appears to me that he had a couple of problems not very different from millions of Americans.... The assault charge obviously wasn't too serious if all he received was a mandate to attend anger management classes... and I would hazard to bet that the "hit and run" involved his vehicle hitting property, not a person... and that was dismissed. As to his business failures, that is nothing more than many of us have been through in the last few years and we know how easy that can happen.

While his acts in Afghanistan were horrific, I am tired of the media using their soap box to turn things into something they are not. There is no honest journalists anymore..

I AGREE.!!!

Evidently there have ee some really slow news days lately.

Turn the TV on and the only things being talked about are our deviant President and the Republicans running for office.

DEMONIZING Sgt. Bales by the media should stop immediately.

If it weren't for people like Sgt. Bales; broadcasters would be huddled in tents waiting for the next terrorist shell to hit them.
