She was found in a narrow canyon 25 feet from the trail and only one mile from her car. The stream she was drinking from goes down to the parking area where she parked. Hiking in this canyon is very easy as the trail follows the stream. You can not go up the side unless you are a rock climber or a mountain goat. There is something very off with this story as she checked herself out of the hospital less than 24 hours after her rescue.

She lost a third of her body weight according to the article. FYI, people who are depressed, and or mentally ill lose a lot of their problem solving abilities. As far as checking out of hospital, she is probably jobless, incapable of filling out the forms needed to get help and suspicious of everyone who she is involved with. That means the hospital will send her a "bill". People like this need to be shown compassion, kindness and understanding, their mental state puts them in a make believe world to survive the stresses of everyday life. I am glad she was found, and hope she gets better.

Actually, the people that lead the search found her within hours of starting the search. The problem lay with no one actually bothering to start searching for her.

Authorities are investigating why it took weeks for the search and rescue team to be alerted after her car was located in the park. THEY WERE NOT ALERTED! Reread the article.

They didn't lead a search for survivors. They had no interest in survivors.

Something is seriously wrong when we allow something like this to be overlooked in our national forests and parks. It means we have no serious rescue infrastructure left and both Parties are guilty for lack of priority.

Why didn't she just walk to her car and go home? Was she injured? If she doesn't know what she's doing, why was she in the park in the first place? We need more info. But it's sweet that her cat stayed with her.

This lady went hiking with a sleeping bag and cat food. She was 25 feet from the trail next to the stream which flows down to where her car was parked. The cat need to find a new person to care for it.

Cats stay with people because they are trully amazed at how stupid people are! Seems in this case the family should be talked to about allowing their mentally handicapped relative out of their sight!

Maybe, but had those who are paid to protect and defend done their job, it wouldn't be an issue. They screwed up and they need held accountable.
