Well it looks like Mortar has packed it in after being either on willing or unable to answer my question (No Mortar when I ask how many fingers am I holding and you say red, that is not an answer). Of course his partners Gruven, Goofer, and Attention have assumed his mantle. Of course they haven't answered my question either.
by slownewsday_2012 February 8, 2012 3:11 PM EST He always runs away in those cases. He's one heck of a coward - makes me wonder if he actually served or not...
Someone please explain to me how denying gays the right to marry serves to "promote responsible child-rearing among opposite-sex couples". What does one have to do with the other?
by gruven13777100 February 8, 2012 2:17 PM EST Again, marriage is not a Right.
People do not have the Right to marry whomever, or whatever, they feel like marrying on a given day.
----------------------
You are clearly very confused.
The right to marry is not the same as the right to marry 'whomever or whatever you want'.
Marriage is a right as defined by the Supreme Court in at least 14 rulings. Go look it up.
"People do not have the Right to marry whomever, or whatever, they feel like marrying..." is only partially true.
1- you cannot marry anyone or anything that cannot give legal consent.
2- the social decision to not allow two legally consenting adults is arbitrary and based on morals.
Because morals are different between groups of people, morals are not a valid basis for creating legal standards. That's why the old blue laws (aka morals laws where booze couldn't be sold on Sundays, etc, etc.) are gone. Your morals are different than my morals. Your morals are not inherently superior to mine, they are just different. That makes laws based on morals unconstitutional. Laws are based on preventing the infringement of your or my rights and property and the enforcement of civilized society.
Be warned. Canada allowed gay marriage a decade ago. Since then, our land has been smote with one plague after another. Frogs, lice, boils, blah blah blah. Also, my own marriage fell apart the day after a gay couple in Toronto got married. My wife left me stating that marriage "no longer meant anything". Families are breaking apart. The divorce rate is now 95%. Gangs of gays wander the streets raping and pillaging.
Some may argue that all people in your country have equal rights under your Constitution. BUT DON'T BUY IT. Keep the hom*s where they rightly belong.
After all, you freed the slaves and now you've got a blackie as President.
I sure hope the Supreme Court doesn't reinstate the ban.
I want to marry as many "mens" as I can.
I would like to marry those two holding their wedding album at the same time.
I can't help myself. I was born this way.
Man Craazy!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Mortarman291SG February 8, 2012 1:36 PM EST Actually, you are hundreds of years behind us!

You're right. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go light the coal lamp. The igloo is getting kind of chilly. (I made this computer myself out of snow and whale blubber).
Mortar and his ilk can't define harmcaused by same sex marriage because there is none (at least none that would stand up in a court of law) He loses no money, suffers no physical harm, loses no rights he currently enjoys, etct. His only perceived harm is that he finds homosexuality degusting and simply by knowing someone is gay, visualizes what he perceives that person's sexual activity to be. (Actually, anyone who tantasizes about others sexual activity is a little perverted).
Reality is that same sex marriage causes no harm whatsoever, and, infact, probably strenthens a community when two people engage in a committed loving relationship. There is on the other hand harm to those that are negatively affected by a ban on same sex marriages (thus the unconstitutionality of prop 8) when they are denied legal benefits enjoyed by those engaged in heterosexual marriages.
Whether same sex couples engage in sexual activity in the privacy of their own homes or not is no ones business anymore than it is our business if and when hetero couples do the same. Marriage does not grant license nor does lack of marriage prohibit sexual activity thus should not be part of this discussion.
Finally I would like to point out that I am not gay, I have no family members (that I know of that are gay), but I do have friends, co-workers and neighbors who are - some of whom are in committed relationships. I also have family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors who are straight and engage in what I would consider immoral and inappropriate hererosexual behavior. Neither are nor should they be illegal. This country would be so much better off if we all could mind our own business.
Goofer, what the he11 are you talking about? Wait I get it, you want to deny same sex marriage because through denial gays are forced to foot a greater portion of the tax bill thus relieving you of your responsibility. And silly me I thought your ilk's objections were all about morality.
by Goofer-Buddy February 8, 2012 2:09 PM EST Loses no money? A core liberal belief is that money grows on some magical tree. Shifting and expanding benefits costs money... Social Security, pension, medical, tax deductions, etc etc etc all cost somebody money. Surprise!
-
Well. Um. Correct me if I'm wrong but gay people aren't except from paying taxes in the USA. Are they?
daffy, I think Goofer's point is that he wants gays to pay higher taxes through loss of exemptions and deny them the ability to draw SS and Medicare that they might be eligible if they had a spouse. Sneaky people these antigay people are. They made us beleive that it was all about morality when it was really about balancing the budget.

Aaaah. I get it now. It's not really about "morality" but the almighty buck.
Genesis 38:8 Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME GOD SAID, MARRY AND GROW , HOW CAN TWO MEN GROW WITH CHILD LOL, OK then you have the story of Sodom and Gomorra "Because down through the ages, culture after culture has taught that marriage is between a man and a woman.1 Corinthians 6:9-10 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. eNeither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor 2homosexuals, nor 3sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." -Matthew 7:1-2

I think he realized how dumb his "Canada is hundreds of years behind us" comment was.
Mortar has left the building.

How old are you? I might want to adopt you.

Any two consenting adults can marry in Canada. The government has no say in it.

PS--gruven: Something doesn't have to be an enumerated "right" in order for the equal protection clause to apply. Just sayin'.
