A cop was shot. I'm sure he/she had a gun.

Really what a dumb thing to say as the odds that the murdered cop had a gun and was trained to use it was gunned down. Virginia will give a gun to any crackpot who can scrape together the cash to buy it regardless of criminal background or mental state, so why is this a surprise? I'm surprised there aren't more mass shootings in Virginia.

Sure give everyone a gun. That kept an armed police officer safe, didn't it.

TexasGetsIt...you don't get it. An armed and well trained police officer and his firearm were no good to stop this shooter who could have been a potential supporter of the conceal carry laws on campus. More guns on campus in the hands of students just mean more chances a shooting like this could occur. Guns are designed to kill people not to save lives. Take for example the assasination of President Kennedy. Hundreds of well trained and heavily armed Secert service agents and police officers weer protecting the President and a loser with a rifle shot and killed the President. Reagan was shot by another loser while surrounded by armed Secret Service agents and police officers. In both cases the only one able to shoot was the loser.

Because of all the news coverage, they'll glorify the killers instead of the victims. The news irresponsibility leads to more incidents. Same as anti-gun people preaching not to carry. As less carry more criminals will not fear acts like these. Go ahead, keep it anti-carry and they'll have more victims. Think they're worried about a "No firearms on campus" sign? Only the innocent are.

Addict42, it sounds like you do not know the law in Virginia since it is almost as strict as the law in California.

Either way, before you spout your ignorance, have something to back it up. It took me less than 1 minute with the keywords "Virginia handgun purchase requirements" to find that.

Its a surprise that some of the biggest killing sprees in US history take place in the "gun free zones". Ask any felon what they fear more, the police or people with a concealed carry. They know the police have guns, but they do not know who else does though. That is usually enough to keep things on the straight and narrow.

Either way, before you spout your ignorance, have something to back it up.

No all y'all above don't get it.

If the students had concealed carry, they would be background checked & have to take a training course prior ro being permitted. As it stands now, we have one person who was, by definition, illegally in possession of a firearm, and this person has killed two people, one of them being a police officer. I would bet the other was either a student or faculty memmber. Perfaps if that second person had had CC, he might have had a chance to save his own life. After all, the police officer certainly couldn't.

When will you people get it through your thick skulls that criminals don't care about laws, and the police are not always in a position to protect you?

You're position advocates one just giving up to the criminals...
