Good dog! Baaaaaaad human that did that to the kittens. We have a cat that was rescued from a garbage can where someone had disposed of him and his siblings in a garbage bag which was tossed into a trash can. He's a little sweetheart.
What amazes me is how people cringe at this bad thing, but happily grab a hamburger or chicken sandwich for lunch. Our meat eating culture fosters the idea in some people's heads that animals are objects. I became a vegetarian because I saw the HBO documentary on the treatment of animals, including cats and dogs, in China where they boil and/or skin them alive.
If we had a vegetarian culture, these things would happen seldom if at all.
Whilst cats cannot be vegetarians, dogs can. This dog was obviously fed and well attended, and that is why he or she didn't eat the kittens. However, I'd like to think it was the dog's personal love and respect of other living things. Maybe it was both.
Transatlantique, you are sadly misguided. Dogs are primarily meat-eating scavengers. They CANNOT be 'turned' into vegetarians without inducing severe health problems. Humans, likewise, are not built to forgo meat all of their lives. I should know. I was a vegetarian, then a vegan, for several years. Never again. I've owned cats most of my adult life, and have cared greatly about them. Your sanctimonious attitude sickens me. You should understand that compassion, not condescension and hate, is the way to a happier life. There is no 'meat-eating culture' as you describe, and getting all of your information about meat from an HBO documentary is like getting your facts from Sesame Street.
There will be no culture, and has been no culture, EVER, that has completely forsaken meat. Even Hindus ate a ton of insects in their food back in the days before more thorough inspections were order of the day.
@Pandora Blue, tell that to my vegetarian dogs who are well into their teens. My vet said its perfectly fine to turn dogs into vegetarians.
Humans have long digestive tracts which cannot handle meat as it becomes lodged and forms plaque in the colon, and thus preventing the absorption of nutrients. We only ate meat in winter during the time when humans were developing thousands of years ago when no vegetation was available before we evolved. Humans only look for excuses to eat meat now which is damaging to the planet and one's health. Its a proven fact.
This is in fact a meat eating culture (McDonald's), whereas many eastern Indian cultures are not. The HBO documentary was about how the Chinese treat animals and I refuse to be a part of that cruel mindset. Now, I'm supposed to eat meat to make your sanctimonious A$$ feel better about falling off of the vegan wagon? My life has never been happier than when I gave up being a carnivore. It is the lack of creativity and laziness that cause people to consume dead animals. If you are sickened by my lifestyle, that is only a reflection of your insecurity. I could care less whether or not you eat meat other than it doesn't kill people quick enough. Animals are far superior to humans, so why should we eat something better than us? Now, go eat a bug!

Yes, it is horrib;le what they do in China and Indonesia to animals we consider pets. But it has nothing to do with people here who are not vegetarians. I am as horrified as you are about the nasty person who did this, deliberatly putting poor defenseless kittens where they would be hit and crushed by a car. I hope they are actively searching for the [person who did this awful thing because they deserve the harshest punishment allowed.

Whaaa? The lights are on, there is sound emitting, but no one is home. If there was a god, this wouldn't have happened to these animals because the a$$hole who did it would have miraculously died of a heart attack before they were sealed in a bag, and they would all have miraculously found homes. Better yet, they wouldn't have been born in the first place because the idiot who didn't spay the mother or neuter the father would have found the better sense to do so.
Now do you get it? Animals are better than people, and as far as I've been shown, there is no god of those people. If a god created people in "his" image, then that god needs to go back to design school and try again. Yes, I'm also talking about my own flaws.

Dogs don't love and respect life..they are carnivores and SCAVENGERS! If left to fend for themselves, they will form a pack and exploit whatever opportunity is left to them. And they will breed like rats if not spayed and neutered. Their digestive systems are not very efficient, so they will often eat their own feces..or forage for another animal's scat if necessary.
Maybe I should wish YOU will have a heart attack soon because you wished ill will on another human...?
Animals are better than humans because they don't start wars that destroy nature in the name of fictional gods. They are better because they don't take anymore than they need like some greedy humans who can't ever get enough. Dogs have rescued people from fires, and have starved themselves to death with grief over the loss of a master. You must live under a rock. Whatever!

I would turn off my computer and start reading my bible asking God to open my understanding and to please give me Godly wisdom, because you are absolutely lacking it. Please, Religion has no place in this story. This dog was tender and caring and was there at the right time and knew what had to be done-find help for these poor injured kittens.
