That swine can't claim that he felt so threatened that he needed to use the pepper spray because he apparently didn't feel threatened enough to use it when faced with an armed person.
This country is founded on civil liberties. What is supposed to make us different than other nations is we condone free speech. Debate, discussion, protesting for what we believe in, are fundamental to who we are. How do seated people challenge the authority of the state so much that they are targeted by armed and armored "law" enforcers? The comments below are full of self righteous extremisms, but, we live in a society where we are free to voice our opinions. People could walk around the demonstrators. They were not destroying property. They simply made a statement and were punished. They government should never step in and tell us to disperse because they do not wish to hear dissent.

I don't give a dayum how many metals this facist cop has earned, doesn't give him carte blanche or his facist superiors to use poor leadership as some merit demonstration and this police dept. is still trying to earn more brownie points because of this facist cop's record .. have him and the superiors who gave the order to pepper spray..to NOT set foot on the UDC campus again which is the way to handle this.
..furthermore, we know how the good ole boys networks operates don't we.. just look at PENN STATE.. Sandusky was paraded like a GOD.. in the meantime along the way raping little boys and all those in his inner circle KNEW what Sandusky did and was capable of continuing..and KEPT him STILL on the payroll..and that my friends is unethical and a moral disgrace to PENN STATE.. who turned a blind eye for fame and prestiage at the expense of sexually assaulted little boys..THAT'S were the rubber meets the road with PENN STATE.. not matter how you slice and dice it..
I care less of the notion this facist cop and what awards he may have received..you may want to go back and investigate how did he really earn these awards... dubbed as some hero from the good old boys network to protect his image.

This officer should not only be re-instated he should also be given a formal apology. He did as he was asked to do. The student exercised the tactic of civil disobedience and now would like to be protected from the natural and logical consequences of their action. PLease someone tell me where I can send my $20for his civil suite against those who had him suspended.

But, the problem goes deeper here, I think the department and the university who set the stage for this are partly to blame - especially the 'retired police officer' who came up with an operations manual that seems to sanction felony behaviors by officers. As we see from Penn State - campus cops do not replace the state legislature and judicial system. Clean out the trash and fire those in the entire chain of command.

Reading some of these comments must be similar to what people said as Hitler started rounding up the Jews, Communists, Gypsies and gays.
