Frankly, I hope the woman steps off a curb and is hit by a truck.
Blame the parents if you want for being ignorant, oblivious, negligent or foolish. The fact is, this woman was dispicably cruel and intentionally so. She tricked her, stalked her and then tormented her. Yet, people want to hold her responsible because her self esteem was low or she was insecure and lonely. Riducule the victim and the family for some low life broad. Ya, that's justice.

What you emotional right wingers fail to remember is...

And I would appreciate it if you would refrain from "labeling" me. I am not a Liberal or a Conservative. You Americans may like to LABEL people, but where I come from, we don't live under labels.

You just did the same thing by making this statement.

Public disdain does NOT warrant a prison sentence for this woman.

I'm not saying that she should necessarily have to go to prison, but she most definitely should have some sort of punishment.

And I am a firm believer in punishment for parents who don't look after their kids properly, too. Too many kids are getting hurt and dying because of there parents stupidity. It needs to STOP.

I agree that the MOM AND DAD are responsible. Parents should not be allowing their kids to have free access to the computer. BUT, I do not agree that this other woman shouldn't be punished. We aren't talking about another kid her age pulling a little prank, here. We are talking about an ADULT who deliberately set out to hurt this child. She needs to be punished for it. Is this something you teach your child to do? If she gets away with it, then tht means that everyone else will figure it's okay to do stuff like that.

This is what I was referring to ....... Is it okay to do something like this? No. Too, it's NOT AGAINST THE LAW! Public disdain does NOT warrant a prison sentence for this woman. And what if it HAD BEEN ANOTHER CHILD? This type of cruelty is common place among teens. The answer is not punishing this woman. The answer is making children (emotionally) stronger.

Far as I'm concerned MOM is completely responsible as she had the "key" to the computer, it's access and software and FAILED to ensure her kid wasnt communicating with a pedo or someone else looking to do harm.

Justice prevails yet again! First the firefighters in Ricci, and now this. This really does renew my faith in the system. This woman was convicted in the court of PUBLIC OPINION. However tragic the teenager's death was, it is ridiculous to hold this woman responsible. Let this be a lesson to anyone who may be caught in a similar situation. There are times when you DO NOT WANT a jury deciding your fate. This was one such time. A trial by judge would have ended differently.

Why should MOM get off free? if MOM had failed to lock up the drug cabinet or DAD failed to put a lock on his handgun and the kid died as a result, you can BET they would be charged with child endangerment, neglect etc., so pray tell how is giving a kid a loaded dangerous computer where they can run into porn, pedophiles and worse not the same as not locking the drugs or gun up???

I wonder if that judge has ever had a 13-year-old daughter. If so, I wonder how she feels about her dad's decision.

Decisions like this lead to and excuse vigilantism. Who could now blame the mother of the dead child if she decided to enforce justice that the court has refused to? We are a society that has abandoned responsibility. We can no longer blame anyone for taking the law into their own hands.

"Drew was convicted in a trial, but the judge says that if she is to be found guilty of illegally accessing computers, anyone who has ever violated the social networking site's terms of service would be guilty of a misdemeanor."

That's exactly right, and this is a CIVIL matter not a criminal one! The typical penalty in such cases is they terminate your account and lock it up.
What you emotional right wingers fail to remember is MOM is the one who failed to control HER computer and it's access, a weak MOM continued to all the kid to chat with a "boy friend" after she told her to get off the computer, a stupid MOM failed to screen someone as important or risky as a male stranger/alleged BOY FRIEND to communicate with her kid w/o finding out WHO this "boy" was, where he lived, his age or anything else.
MOM had no clue and if this "boy" was a pedophile, her daughter would have been communicating with him and possibly going to meet him.
Far as I'm concerned MOM is completely responsible as she had the "key" to the computer, it's access and software and FAILED to ensure her kid wasnt communicating with a pedo or someone else looking to do harm.

No one is going to MAKE a kid kill themselves, the kid was on medications for depression and more, it's been well documented some of these drugs have caused suicidal thoughts and tendencies.
Mrs Drew sucks, but from the original story, the kid is not blameless either, she was basically doing the SAME kinds of things to others and got it back in return from fed up people.

Mrs Drew should walk, Mom is the one who should be in jail for child endangerment, failing to secure HER computer, HER internet access, or to monitor HER kid.
Sorry, but don't blame the big bad internet, planet earth can be an evil place, death happens, illnesses happens, cancer happens, accidents happen, bad people affect you, cute innocent newborn Bambi gets eaten by lions for a meal- it's a dangerous world out there, it's up to MOM AND DAD to protect their kid and then it's up to the adult to protect themselves, not the Govt, not your neighbor- YOU, for the only one that really cares about YOU is, YOU!

It's time for parents to start being responsible for their children and who they are talking to on the internet. Accusing this woman of having caused the girl to commit suicide and going after her by means of another law is ridiculous.

She MURDERED this young, teenage girl just as if she thrust a knife into her chest and twisted it!!

WORST yet---she did it DELIBERATELY! She did it with the intent of inflicting severe EMOTIONAL pain and suffering! And she knew the girl suffered from depression because her mother had told her!

THAT'S the big picture! And, you don't get any more GUILTY than that!
So, she SHOULD get sentenced to jail time!

And, this judge OUGHT to have his HEAD examined if HE'S seriously considering nullifying the sentence and LETTING HER GO!

But, this doesn't surprise me! Los Angeles has the worst lawyers and judges and most unjust courts---outside of the deep South---than anywhere in the United States!

IF you're a crook, and want to practice your trade, L.A. is the place to go!

And if comments like yours were read by Lori Drew and caused her to kill herself--then YOU would also be guilty of "murder" and driving someone to suicide, then the rest of people on the blog would hunt you down and say nasty things and want you prosecuted. The thing about a slippery slope is that it is folly to carp about it when you also are standing on it.

Funny, only YOU call it that way, the court and jury don't, guess youse wrongo!

MOM is the guilty one here, she FAILED to secure and monitor HER computer and her kid's use of it, FAILED to check out who her kid was TALKING to on it!

I've seen the mother of the teenager sniveling on tv. She wants to be able to put the blame on anyone beside herself. If she had spent some effort on teaching her daughter about self esteem, this might not have happened. In all the transcripts of what was said to the girl, there was nothing that anyone with any sense at all would have been driven to suicide over. This teenager was a drama queen and would have gone over the edge anyway. She never even met the "boy" that caused her to kill herself. What does that say about her mental state?

Um. This "violation of the computer sites terms" ended with a death. What is a computer crime if this isn't. Cheating people out of royalties seems to be important, how about being responsible for someone's death?

Women always get off the hook no matter how evil they are. We as a society always let them play the victim...after all, has ANYONE even heard of or seen a women take resposibility for a negative act? Yeah, neither have I...

by pw08-2009 July 2, 2009 2:06 PM PDT
People are getting sick of the inequality of judgement towards men and women and something needs to be done about it. Women always get the benefit of doubt and can blame their husband or their hormones for the terrible acts they get away with...we as a society just sit by and let it happen.

I think maybe you should shut up while you are ahead, otherwise I might have to hunt you down and hurt you. : )

Please do not lump ALL women together.

The woman is a nutjob and a child abuser. She won't stop. She thinks she's above everyone else. I think we'll hear about this woman again.
She has no clue what it means to be a caring, responsible parent, adult or woman. May she rot in her own hell on earth.

Murdering witch. Figures she'd get off. I hope she is hounded endlessly till the end of her days. I wish nothing but pain and suffering for her all the rest of her life. I hope that no matter where she goes, no matter where she works, banks, shops, anything she does that people follow her, point her out and make her life miserable. Worthless POS
