I think it is wreckless and irresponsible for the media to risk ruining this kid's life before all the facts are made clear. These people don't care who they throw under the bus or whose reputation they ruin, even in the case of a young kid. This industry is first and foremost about entertainment and making money, and truth often takes a back seat. Not to mention, I've seen enough butchered investigations by local police departments to realize that it would be a mistake to rush to judgement in this instance. Perhaps he really is guilty, but let the facts come out before you label this kid the next Jeffrey Dahmer. What if it wasn't him? Once you report things like this, you can't take it back...the damage is already done.

I'd worry about the Aryan Brotherhood learning from him, more than vice versa. He enjoys torturing and killing creatures, inflicting as much pain as possible on their families - this guy is far worse than they are.

Yeah, and if you truely loved your kids, you'd keep them locked in the house too - no school, no job, no life - it's safer, right? A lot of people let cats out because the cats love it. And no one should be trapped in their house because of the danger that a future serial killer might be wandering - you catch the criminals and put them in jail - you don't put all of society in jail instead.

Every single serial killer, sick murdering torturing criminal, has started out by practicing on animals. So there is no choice - it's cats today, if you don't stop him from attacking the cats, it'll be people next.

If he tortured them, if he deliberately chose people's pet rats so he could inflict as much pain as possible on the people as well, yep! Sick is sick, enjoying creating pain is wrong, and an indication of some serious problems, a huge criminal inclination that will only get worse.

Not a double standard at all. Soldiers can kill, executioners doing the death penalty can kill - and it's fine. Killing for enjoyment, torturing animals and their owners just because you find it fun - that is a deep sickness. Anyone who enjoys causing pain in others will eventually transfer that from animals to humans. Sick, and this is no double standard.

Dogs don't skin their prey using a knife and pose them outside the house. They don't disembowl and bash the heads in, but leave everything else intact. They know it wasn't animals - it was a person. They've been watching this boy for awhile, and while we don't have the evidence yet, it seems likely they've got the right person. However - doesn't matter - all comments here apply to the person who did this - if it happens to not be this kid, they still apply to whatever sick person is doing this.

Murder. An unlawful killing is called a murder. Of course it wasn't just murder - he tortured the cats, mutilated them, killed them, and posed their remains for their families to find, all for his own sick pleasure.

Drama is indeed appropriate - this is a very sick person, likely headed right to being a serial killer. Anyone who enjoys or considers it OK to torture another living creature as enteratainment, something you get pleasure from, is someone who will eventually do the same to a human.

To the person who talk about how many animals the Human Society has to put down - your comment is senseless in comparison to some sick punk who viciously hurt these cats to get off. Unfortunately the humane society puts down those who can never be placed in a home, sick, injured, aggressive, animals it is more humane to put them to sleep - get it PUT THEM TO SLEEP!!! not hack into pieces while they are still alive!
