If we become energy-independent and stop spending billions per year on Saudi oil and huge defense outlays, then the Saudi royal family can do what it wants.

The Saudis are powerful oil allies with the US. If laws exist to protect them from being sued in this situation, those laws were put into place to keep the wheels well oiled. Nothing, not even the death of US citizens killed in a horrific terrorist attack will EVER keep that relationship from flourishing. Sure, the laws exist and the courts are biding by them, doesn't make it right though.

Everyone forgets the Bush family ties to Saudi (Papa Bush works for them) and the fact that they (CIA, FBI) and daddy bush at one time was head of the CIA) knew all this when Bush became President. To now Blame Obama for a ruling the Justice Depatment makes (seperation of powers) is just dumb as dirt! Legal standing is legal standing regardless of Dem or republiCONS! The republiCONS are grasping at anything they can because they know that in 2010 they will finally be kicked out! DUMB AS DIRT!

The people who are "dumb as dirt" are the ones that believed all the campaign rhetoric and thought Obama was going to wave a magic wand to change everything. The public "kissed" Obama and he turns out to be a "frog" after all.

Bush and now Obama have shielded the saudis. its a shame.... im a part of this lawsuit also however doubt we will ever see a penny or an appology. wish we could drill our OWN OIL AND GAS. Do solar panels and install them on every roof that desires them, wind energy then we can stop having to kiss the royal azz.

"One would have hoped that the Obama administration would have taken a different stance than the Bush administration, and you wonder what message this sends to victims of terrorism around the world."

I knew that all of Obama's "opposite" stances from Bush was a bunch of hogwash to win the election. Over and over Obama upholds the programs of the guy he demonized in the campaign.

Why should anyone be surprised that Obama supports Saudi Arabia he bows to the corrupt king & said in his book if he was forced to chose he would chose the Muslims and Islam over American.

Change we can believe in. This should sit well with those people who don't believe that extremist Muslims from Saudi Arabia brought down the twin towers or that 9/11 was the work of our own government. At what point do we start doubting that we voted the right way?
