Kudos to the Italians as well!

I do have a question though, why can the pirates fire on multiple ships, but then aren't fired upon when warships/helicoptors arrive?

I'm gussing the pirates tossed their guns overboard before they could?

I dunno, just glad these pirates were thwarted.

(note to self: use the word ,"thwarted", more often).

It has always interested me how the word "chum" can mean shark bait and it can mean friend. Hmmm...

Right, we should have laws concerning automobiles, drugs and which consenting adults can legally marry, but not guns.

I wasn't aware there was a "gun ban crowd" when it came to the military. Obviously the Canadian warship had guns on it, even if few Canadian citizens do. What does this have to do with private gun ownership anyway? Nothing. I am in favor of strictly enforced gun laws, and I am a gun owner.

Further proof that armed defense to prevent the bording is the proper method to deter pirates while paying the ransom after hostages are taken only produces more acts of piracy. Let the gun ban crowd complain all they want to.

An armed defense has its advantages and disadvantages. While guns might deter pirates, some countries could use them as an excuse to make arrests and seize shipments. If they shoot someone, depending on which country gets involved there could be consequences. If you had been paying any attention, you might have already known this.

About time someone did something. But they let them get away? Why not just open fire and kill them all. If they make it too dangerous to be a pirate, they problem will go away. I have no sympathy at all for the pirates or those who fail to act quickly and decisively when they find them.

Yep, as far as I am concerned, they gave up due process when they took up the pirating trade. I am sure they would have no qualms about continuing to be dishonest when not outnumbered or out gunned.

Not bad for a ship named after a city in the middle of the Prairies. Way to go!!

It's nice to have allies in the fight. We are stronger together!

You can say that again. Question is, why didn't our government push for this during the Bush Administration? As far as I can remember, they were dead silent on the issue.

Here's a bit of WWII trivia for you... Canada started the war with 13 ships in 1939 and by the end of WWII had the third largest navy in the world with over 300 ships. They were a major combatant in the Battle of the North Atlantic.

Obama planned for this, you have to be kidding. I seriously doubt he has anything to do with military planning. He has enough his plate with trying to repair the world's view towards us, steering our economy and finding other ways to help the legislative branch turn us into a socialist nation. Why do you think our economy is not improving, if the government can make more people rely on them for handouts we are one step closer to being a socialist nation. BTW, all pirates when caught in the act of piracy should be sunk or pushed overboard. What good will come from releasing them, other than giving them a chance to commandeer another ship?

Now all we have to do is recover the thirty or forty million they took. I don't understand why they don't pay them in counterfeit money and then track the money.

What was the response from the security team on the Maersk Virginia?

What's that - they DIDN'T HAVE A SECURITY TEAM ONBOARD?!?!?!?!

If they didn't learn their lesson the last time, then they deserve what they get NEXT TIME!!
