Chamber Approves Bill That Would Allow Permit Holders To Bring Weapons Into Alcohol-Serving Establishments
- Why does this sound like a REALLY bad idea? Alcohol and guns....hmmm. Anyone who watches show like the First 48 or Crime 360 can tell you how many disagreements occur in clubs serving liquor. Add guns to the mix and the police really will be screwed!!

- Meanwhile, of course, US residents have created an entire new industry, medical tourism, flying all over the world in their search for "quick, quality health care ". Including, of course, Canada:
"So, in December
2004, Elias, 48, flew to Vancouver and underwent the procedure for
about $720, saving $1,000 after travel expenses. Elias is one of many
Americans capitalizing on a growing trend."

- "then why do so many canucks come to the US when they need quick, quality health care for serious illness. "
name one. Seriously. Like most Americans, I couldn't dream of buying "quick quality healthcare" in the US if my insurance didn't pay for most of it; how can Canadians, with their lower incomes do so?
This myth has been punctured so many times, the only reason rightwingers can still believe it is because they refuse to see anything which disagrees with their religion.
"Only 90 of 18,000 respondents to the 1996 Canadian NPHS [National
Population Health Survey] indicated that they had received health care
in the United States during the previous twelve months, and only
twenty indicated that they had gone to the United States expressly for
the purpose of getting that care. "

- The premise of this bill tries to reconcile common sense with foolishness.
Those who like to patronize their favorite bar know that bad people patronize that same bar and become violent under the right conditions. What 'Good People' want to do is be able to participate in the 'shootout' in the event that one occurs, on belief that they won't be defenseless.
The rational thinkers wonder about the following,
1. Why someone would enter a dangerous place in the first place?
2. If a shootout happens, does participating in one really make it safer for others or yourself?
3. For those many conflicts or threats that begin in a bar, then migrate out to the street, what makes one believe a gun really solves the problem? Usually the dead one in a conflict lost when the first shot was fired.
It defies concealed weapon education about avoiding situations and places where violence can escalate.
If you want safe bars or adult entertainment safe zones, why not simply implement an airport style security checkpoint and require all patrons to pass through it?
It makes more sense to have all adult venues collect in one area and require patrons to pass through a security checkpoint and make the area secure.
We learned to make airports secure after 9-11. Why do we still have politicians who want to continue to escalate the carnage and disreguard common sense ideas that work?

- Does a wrist shot thru the five hole get you a 5 minute major in a conceal/carry bar!?

Not only does that complicate things, but all those dudes with .45's and .38's at the bar sure do make those guys thowing darts look like Girlie Men!!! - Reply to this comment
- LOL! When has this actually happened? I tell you what WILL happen- some punk is going to notice that a paranoid white boy is carrying a gun in a bar, and then he's going to hit him over the head when he goes to his car and take it from him.

It is a concern, More likely the senerio is someone breaks in the house or car and steals your gun while you are off some place it's not allowed.
As far as preventing a tragedy goes. Personally I know of two instances recently in Memphis.
All CC laws do is give good people a tool they might need to stop an evil person from doing harm. The evil person needs no permit, law or even a gun to do great harm. Such a person will beat you or someone else to death with a baseball bat and you will not be able to stop him without a tool to do so.
Like I said before, no CC holder takes this on lightly. Personally If I feel like the place I'm going requires that I be armed I just don't go.
(The two cases I know about happened one at a food store and the other at a beauty salon) - Reply to this comment

When Vice President Cheney blows his friends face off, the explanation is "gunplay", Makes it sound so innocent.
How could you get made at the Vice President when he was just engaging in a little harmless "gunplay"? - Reply to this comment
- You don't call it gunplay? Where are you from? ----------------- Posted by nancy_naive
We just call it shootin` people. You can make a game out of it, but the rules are pretty strict, and spending time in the penalty box is a behatch! - Reply to this comment
- Not having that stress to worry about is the best thing about universal healthcare. It's worth paying a little more on our taxes.

then why do so many canucks come to the US when they need quick, quality health care for serious illness. Your system has more than "some flaws".
and another reason your gun and other crime rates are so low is that in many parts of Canada, your closest neighbor is 50 miles away. when so many people are spread out like that you don't have the same crime. check the stats by people per square mile anc compare places that are simular. it is easy to see why you are on your knees for Michael Moore, you both like to tell part of the facts and twist the truth. you are a fool and jealous of the US. if not go rant on your great Canadian news web sites. what a clown

Oh dear...you sure nailed me there,lol...Hard to argue with your well-informed logic, lol
And you can certainly "out-rant" me as well....I think I'll snow-shoe 50 miles to my closest neighbour I'm so depressed now,lol - Reply to this comment
