live in the south and as far as I can tell Detroit is the most violent city to live in in America. I guess you northerners lack the competence to handle weapons

Easy now, we handle just fine here in Minnesota.

FYI on Vermont:

Vermont is unique in that permits are not required for carry concealed or unconcealed for resident and non-resident alike. Vermont has no statutes concerning concealed carry, nor is there a specific statute that allows it. In the absence of a statute that prohibits it, then it is taken that there is no law against it. Since Vermont does not issue permits, its residents are unable to legally carry concealed in other states that would normally recognize out-of-state permit holders unless they hold some other state's permit. As a way around this situation, a person who wishes to legally carry a concealed firearm in another state can apply for and receive a non-resident permit from Florida, or another state which issues non-resident permits. Florida is typically the state of choice because Florida has been quite aggressive about seeking the widest possible reciprocity with other states

Yes, yes, yes. When Florida relaxed cary license laws, folks like you screamed "Blood in the streets!" When 40+ states followed, you screamed "Blood in the streets!" When the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" expired, you screamed "Blood in the streets!" When the DC gun ownership ban was declared unconstitutional, you screamed "Blood in the streets!" Now that Tennessee allows licensed people to take their sidearms with them into Denny's, Outback, and Applebees, you're screaming "Blood in the streets!" Wolf! Wolf! Wolf! You Chicken Littles need a new act -- at this point, you just look stupid anymore.

LOL ...oh Joe...that is so funny. That is true...we really couldn't see the sense in going into Iraq when the enemy was in Afghanistan. But you, under the leadership of Bush decided to go in to Iraq ...so how is that strategy working out for you?lol
What a sound military strategy it was ...yep,lol....and what is extraordinary is that you still defend it....good one.

Personally...I'm glad our leadership saw fit to disagree with Bush on that one....

Give all rednecks who go to bars in the South a gun. It may thin their ranks.

Isn't Vermont the only state where all citizens 21 years or older have the right to carry concealed?

(At leaat in TN we have to take a test and prove we can put 8 out of 10 inside the ten ring)

All I want is for the packers to squeeze off a few rounds at a set target
on their way in to prove they can shoot straight.

Also have them all sit on consecutive bar stools at one end of the bar
so that if I'm to get shot the bullet will have to go through
three, maybe four peopls first.

"LAST CALL!!"

"Ah, Barkeep,,,, betsy here says "last call" is too general,,, perhaps you could
be a tad more specific."

"LAST CALL FOR THOSE WANTING TO USE OUR TELEPHONE!!"

"Have one on me and Betsy, friend."

And all any establishment has to do is put a sign on the door saying no guns allowed. Legally a CC permit holder can not carry into that establishment.

If there is no sign, the permit holder may eat or visit in the establishment, but he can not drink alcohol.

Don't expect to see much change one way or the other with this law.

You will still have gun fights in bars, but, typically CC permit holders will not be involved.

Occasionally a permit holder may safe a life, or a room full of lives. You will not however hear about it here.

If a CC holder does screw up expect it to be a national news story.

you see i am man enough to provide for me and my family and provide them with health insurance. and my country has it's own military to protect and take care of its people. i ldon't expect any welfare to provide my family with is what i see as my responsibility. kind of like how Canada doesnt need their military and will just let the US provide them with protection. Really...who are you protecting us from? In case you, in your ignorance have forgotten...Canada stepped right up for the fight in Afghanistan and our troops are fighting in the Kandahar area where over a hundred of our troops have been killed.
Is this how you speak about your allies? You forget that we have been allies in every war after 1812 ...which didn't quite turn out the way you wanted btw.

Over 40,000 Candians even volunteered to fight with your forces in Vietnam.

You voted for Bush didn't you? You have the same lack of respect . What happened? ...did a beaver bite you on the butt once?

Oh great, not only do I live in a red and ignorant state... now I have to be subjected to drunks in bars carrying guns. Does anyone honestly believe for one nanosecond that every single person who carries a gun into a bar will not also then drink booze? I can hardly wait for the first person to be shot to death in a drunken bar dispute as a result.
Probably will happen the first day the law takes effect.
One can only hope the first in the soon-to-be long line of victims is one of the idiot lawmakers who pass this insane bill. Only thing to do now is for all Tennesseans to totally reinforce our Beverly Hillbilly image, and start wearing ropes instead of belts (the better to hang our six-shooters from). But wait....let's don't stop there!!! How about wearing buckskins like Davy Crockett! Yaaahoooooo!!!!!!!

This myth has been punctured so many times, the only reason rightwingers can still believe it is because they refuse to see anything which disagrees with their religion.

wow if you only knew who i am and how wrong you are. i don't go to church and certainly don't considermyself religious by any means. nor do i affiliate myself with any particular religion. so i guess that means you are WRONG again.
and, Canada can certainly spend more on healthcare when they don't have to have a military to defend themsselve. they can just leave that to their neighbor to the south who they love to look down their noses at. come on, a lot of canadians speak and are french. that pretty much says it all. been to both Canada and France several times and nieither one has anything on the good old USA.

Guess what folks? There are already guns in bars. They aren't carried by people who have taken the handgun carry course either. Ask Plaxico Burress about that one. He had a gun in a bar in a city with some the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. If you guys think that laws do anything to stop criminals, you might want to keep reading the news and see what some people think of laws. Those of us who have carry permits are fully aware of the laws and at least we care enough about the law to obey it. Also if you don't like the law, you are more than welcome to stay wherever you are. Oh yeah, just so you know, this law also allows us to carry our guns in State Parks.

[Good idea. More guns in bars = less bar fights. Really - would YOU start a fight in a bar knowing you'd get your gonads shot off?]
[Posted by Obama_the_Clown at 10:01 AM : May 8, 2009 ]

do people who have been drinking use rational thought to decide upon their actions? would the same choices made (like deciding to start a fight) while sober be the same choices made after having been drinking for a while?

The hard truth of all of it is that if someone assaults me directly my reaction time makes it almost impossible to respond in time to defend myself.

The bad guy knows what he is going to do. I on the other hand have to see and recognize the threat before I can respond.

So, what that means is that if someone gets within 21 feet of me they can kill me with a knife or club before I can draw my weapon.

The only time then that me having my weapon would benefit is a scenario where the bad guy is working down line attacking people.

This was the case in the local Kroger store a while back. An Employee in the butcher shop took a knife a started stabbing people while apparently out of his mind.

A citizen with their CC permit drew down on him and told he would shoot him if he did not stop and lay down on the floor.

The young man complied and everyone lived to see another day.

It is exactly the kind of scenario that played out at Virginia Tech. Victims actually had minutes waiting in rooms for their killer to come shoot them.

It?s ironic that we trust normal citizens (if there is such a thing) to drive cars and trucks each capable of more death and mayhem than most handguns without any thought at all.

We do this because we know that most people who drive would never do anything to hurt someone. I would suggest to you that CC permit holders are exactly the same in this regard.
