antoniof123 - it isn't our nation's responsibility to help all of the world's poor. We are the most generous nation and have pumped billions into many nations and all for the good of the poor. And yet, the poor are still around, expecting more handouts. It's naive to conclude that had we done more in the Somali region that perhaps there wouldn't be such a thing as piracy. Piracy, barbarism and thuggery have been around for hundreds of years and will unfortunately continue. These pirates aren't poor. They're millionaires from all of the ransom they've managed to get because of their ruthlessness. The only good pirate is a dead one.

Just send the baby to juvenile hall, and when he is released at age 18 in about three months, give him $50 and free clothing and let him apply for foodstamps in New Jersey. Because he will have no criminal record, he can sponsor his parents to immigrate, and America will be better off for having three new and productive citizens. Meanwhile, Congress needs to pass new piracy laws immediately -- most of the somali pirates are still in middle school, so the law must be adopted to not consider age of the perpetrator.

["He took all his books the day he disappeared, except one, I think, and did not come back," she said, adding that she did not know which book he was reading - Hassan is illiterate. ]

ahhh ... if he's illiterate why would he have any books at all?

can he swim? if he's an illiterate with many books ... i'm guessing he became a pirate when he actually couldn't swim.

sounds like he was raised well ... taught all the fundamentals by a couple of loving and caring parents ... and ready to take on the world.

but he was 'wise beyond his age'.

I am sure it was mainly homesickness that is making him cry, not his crime. homesickness is very strong and often more unexpected than most people realize. I doubt he was crying when he was trying to steal large vessels and take hostages.

What is funny is had we spent all the money on helping others that we spent on Iraq we would have a lot more to show for it now maybe this would not have happend.

However, rules and laws are clear and they must be obeyed as long as the spirt is not lost. He should do time is he an adult or not that is not for me to judge we have judges for that so stop trying this in the media and let the people who know the law do their jobs.

It would have been better had they killed him too.

This is the problem with trying Muse in an American court. There are polaces in other parts of the world where his age would not be an issue. Now that we extended American rights to this guy, justice may never be served. It is one thing to put up with the foolishness of deciding whether he is a juvenile or an adult with American citizens in American courts. It is easier to let one our allies handle this where it could be done easily and quickly.

So this "poor baby" joins a group of pirates who had guns and threatened deadly force upon innocent civilians carrying relief supplies to Africa? I am sorry but actions speak louder than words and have very real consequences. TPerhaps someone will learn even if it is too late fgor him. Throw him in jail and throw away the key. He is a lawless pirate not a dippy teenager playing some game. He should feel lucky he was not killed like his "pals" and should feel lucky he was not left in the ocean to drown or be eaten by sharks.

OH NO...he cried!!!!

Shoot, now we're going to have to set him free because we wouldn't want that would we?

Of course, the rest of the world would've been ok with our captain and his crew getting killed, but this priate CRIED....we better set him free or the rest of the world will retaliate!

It's amazing..... officials are so careful to follow the law to the "t" with this guy - but on a larger and more detrimental catastrophy - Obama and his adminstration is given passes left and right.
