Returning To Vermont Hometown After Pirate Hostage Drama, Richard Phillips Praises SEAL "Superheroes"
- I'd say this guy qualifies as an exemplary person. To offer yourself as a hostage to insure the safety of your crew and ship is a real act of bravery. I want to hear more about that chicken pot pie, and I'd also like to know what his favorite beer is. Whatever it is, I'm sure they could use a plug. I hope it's magic hat.

- My husband is a Marine, serving 30 years in the Corps. He has been to combat 11 times. His last tour to Iraq, he took 1700 men and women and brought 1700 of them back - ALL returned home safely. Now that deserves a hero's welcome!!! I Thank GOD for the return Richard Phillip (Did he Thank GOD in his speech?) especially for his family and for the safe return of the other crew members (who did Thank GOD) because I know what it feels like to have 3 children and your husband is gone for months at a time to war and I pray that he and all the Marines and all our men and women at war, comes home safely. But I was very disappointed that my favorite show was interrupted today at 10:50am, over this man who thanked everyone but did NOT Thank our President of the United States, President Obama, who gave the Navy Seals permission to carry out that mission. Hellooooo. Yes Richard Phillips gave the honor to the Military and the Navy Seals but why didn't he give it to the Commander in Chief and above all did he give Thanks to GOD??????
Our military men and women are coming home from war. War - an ugly situation and place where they risk their life for our country - to a little homecoming after war, when each time they arrive on American soil they should have a "Hero's Welcome", each and everyone of them - every time!! WE need to treat our men and women of war to this same homecoming. They truly deserve it and so much more!
Thank You and GOD BLESS,

- Wont be lng and the scum will be looking into the Captains past, his tax issues, ..and the three SEAL are about to become the national news medias Enemy #1!
Stay away from the news media,Captain! You and the SEALs were not given permission to be heros or "good" men by the consolidated news media.
So, you're going to have to pay.
Good thing you can go back to sea! Or retire and write a book about this ordeal you were confronted with.
I get a sick feeling the news media's sympathies are turning toward the pirates! - Reply to this comment

- OBAMA IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN 100 YEARS
If he was doing his job, this attack never would have happened in the first place.
Look at all the Bush bashing - as if Bush had anything to do with this.
NO U.S. CAPTAIN WAS EVER TAKEN HOSTAGE BY PIRATES ON BUSH'S WATCH. - Reply to this comment

- What an overblown pile of BS!
Even my neighbor can top that. Yesterday he single-handedly swatted and killed a mosquito!
I think he should get a ticker-tape parade and the congressional metal of honor.

Well that's probably more "bravery" than you've shown in your life. - Reply to this comment
- RUSH LIMBAUGH:
You know what we have learned about the Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers that were wiped out at the order of Barack Obama, you know what we learned about them? They were teenagers. The Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers who took a US merchant captain hostage for five days were inexperienced youths, the defense secretary, Roberts Gates, said yesterday, adding that the hijackers were between 17 and 19 years old.
They were kids. The story is out, I don't know if it's true or not, but apparently the hijackers, these kids, the merchant marine organizers, Muslim kids, were upset, they wanted to just give the captain back and head home because they were running out of food, they were running out of fuel, they were surrounded by all these US Navy ships, big ships, and they just wanted out of there. That's the story, but then when one of them put a gun to the back of the captain, Mr. Phillips, then bam, bam, bam. There you have it, and three teenagers shot on the high seas at the order of President Obama. - Reply to this comment
- Even if Rush Limbaugh thinks the pirates were just "merchant marines" and innocent teenagers, we know better.

- I'm sorry to see that most posters are using this story on a great American hero to make spiteful political rants.

- He is not a hero. He's a lucky guy that's all. He took a chance and it payed off. Period. And for you idiots who think the pirates, aka terrorists, should not have been shot. Get a reality check. It's ignorance that thinks he's a hero and it's the same ignorance that elected Obama.

Isn't "taking a chance" what defines a hero? I mean, how is he not a hero? He told the kidnappers that if they don't harm the crew, he will go with them as a hostage. He risked the possiblity of losing his life to safeguard the crew. How many have the courage to do that? - Reply to this comment
