republicans are not in favor of Justice. They are in favor of revenge and retribution. In the republican version of Justice, a person is guilty if charged (except of course if they are republican). In which case there is no amount of lawbreaking that is unacceptable.

They feel that way cause it's reality, that's why you read in the papers about the woman beaten and killed on the street in a big city while 15 onlookers just stand there and do nothing, excapt maybe the one or two who grab her purse out of her dead hand before the cops come in an hour or two.

Because she was a scared little 13 year old girl who was raised like every other 13 year old child is raised, where her parents are her world, and provide everything for her. She probably prayed every night that this wasn't happening. She probably also told her mother the first time, who told her to not worry about it, it wouldn't happen again. Don't overlook the probability that the boyfriend had both mother and daughter scared to death that if they said anything he would kill them.

It also doesn't help that most law-abiding person's contact with the police is on the end of a traffic citation. If the cops spent more time chasing bank robbers and less time pulling over people going 45 in a 35 zone, or replacing film in the photo radar machines, they would probably be trusted more.

Thats a lot it exactly, but the police screw things up so bad sometimes it's a crapshoot when you go there. Especially when your dealing with family crisis situations. They're just not trained to do that. I've been witness to a "Domestic Violence" case for a while and you would not believe how screwed up that situation has become there. I think it's a matter of the government wanting to do something meaningful in area's they simply don't have the money or training to intervene into with out making matters worse. Good intentions don't necessarly make good laws. Cops are good at aprehending bank robbers and speeding cars but when it comes to dealing with a domestic situation it's simply too complicated to apply a standard rule that covers all situations.
