- I had read that the three still missing were wearing life vests. Why did they get away from the boat?

- my prayers are with these men and their families, friends and teammates. a number of years ago, my then newspaper publisher and two friends disappeared in the gulf of mexico while on a fishing trip/tournament. the weather changed suddenly and their boat disappeared. it, along with the three men, were never found. weather on the water can change in an instant. weather radios and life vests with gps and lights are a must. i won't go on the water without them.

- The boat was obviously overloaded. Throw in alcohol and inexperience on the water and you have a real mix for danger. Let's hope the boat didn't sink in the rough waters here and they are found soon.

Did it say anywhere that alcohol was involved? Also, the boat was owned by one of the people missing and they had been out before the article stated. Inexperience?
I love people that can add their own tidbits of info into these articles.
I heard it was a gay fishing retreat...man, look out...apparently Gawd was angry that they were all together.
See, that just isn't fair.
I hope they find them safe, although I don't feel warm and fuzzy about it.

- " ... many of the boaters who returned Saturday evening said they were surprised the water had gotten so rough."
Surprised ?
Did ANY of them check ANY weather forecast ?
The weather reports all week said bad weather was coming on Saturday.

Perhaps the storm approached faster or earlier than predicted or was stronger than predicted. I've learned from all the times I've been out, "surprises" do happen. The last 4 out of 5 times I've been out, I encountered unexpected weather challenges. When I'm out, I'm usually out 4 to 5 days at a time so my weather radio is invaluable since you can't rely on forecasts that far in advance. - Reply to this comment
