State Asks Obama To Speed Federal Aid As Hundreds Of Thousands Still Without Power; Nationwide Death Toll Now 55
- Newsflash: Kentuckians decided today that they don''t want help from the Federal Gov''t. The mostly Republican populace has decided to walk the walk they talk. They''ve decided to react to this disaster in a way that reflects their daily stated values. They''ve officially decided to provide their own help to themselves; to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps so to speak.
In other news, a squadron of pigs flew over the U.S. capital today.... - Reply to this comment

Fact: Kentucky is a net welfare state when it comes to Federal money. It receives billions more than it pays to the Federal Gov''t. If we wanted other countries to look at examples of how to pull your own weight, we wouldn''t want them to emulate our average red states. - Reply to this comment
- Does the Kentucky Governor expect the president to wave a magic wand and everthing will be back to normal immediately? It just doesn''t happen that way. The power companies cut crews a few years ago and rely on help from power companies from other states to help when a major storm like this happens. Most of the states surrounding Kentucky were hit by the same storm, so help from them is probobly not available.

- FACT: The people of Kentucky pay far more in taxes than the Third World Dictators that are living off billions of dollars of U.S. Foreign AID. When Bush paid off Third World debt; the money didn''t go to the poor it went to banks and dictators. Why don''t the misers who complain about Americans accessing benefits from their own tax dollars, complain about criminals wars costing billions every month and hand outs to dictators in the form of foreign aid?

In 2005, Kentucky received 42 billion Federal dollars.
Kentucky provided 24.6 billion dollars in Federal taxes that year.
Year in and year out, your average red state gets more Federal dollars than it pays to the Federal Gov''t. - Reply to this comment
- Another welfare red state begging for more handouts. Kentucky gets way more in federal spending than they pay in taxes. You''d think such a conservative state would have saved some of the money so it could buy more bootstraps for their people to pull themselves up by.
