Cops Say Calif. Man Arranged Daughter's Marriage In Exchange For Cash, Beer And Meat
- Greenfield police Chief Joe Grebmeier said the case highlights an issue confronting local authorities in that arranged marriages with girls as young as 12 are not uncommon among the Trique.
He hesitated to say the girl was being sold into marriage, as the money was intended as a dowry and the beer and meat were for the wedding. But, he added, the arrangement violates California law, where the age of consent for marriage is 18, and with parental approval, 16. **** If this marriage arrangement took place in Mexico... then there would be no problem... If you live in the USA, specifically California... you must respect California laws... If that guy wants to sell his 14 year old daughter, he needs to move back to mexico! - Reply to this comment
- For over 300 years everyone the immigrated to our country LEARNED English. It was the official language then and should be now. My kids have had to learn Spanish to accommodate the illegal aliens that have moved to our country. Many of our towns are filled with those that have come here and refuse to learn our language and force us to learn theirs. Only in America could this be acceptable behavior.
They use our resources, our government programs, and thumb their noses at our laws and customs. Only in America could this be acceptable behavior.
Illegals are over-running our nation and anyone who speaks out against such things are called racists. Only in America could this be acceptable.
No other nation would allow such things to happen. Only in America could this be acceptable. I say, SEND THEM ALL BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM.
Come here legally and I will accept you with open arms. Learn our language, culture, customs and laws. Come here illegally and I want you out. Only in America is that UNACCEPTABLE. - Reply to this comment
- DdaVicar3, What plane or burro did you come here on. The laws of this country is the law of this country and are not bent to favor the criminal or the criminal illegal alien.
We, the citizens of America, are required by our laws/laws and regulations to abide by them or expect the worst from the bed with the good bye medicine or a jail of some nature.
I do not think you are that stupid I think you are with the illegals wishing to over write/ride our laws by a alarge invasion of criminal illegal aliens. To make it your natin without firing a bullet and so for with the president politicians you might just do that but the fact I am 71 it will not happen in my life time. Frank - Reply to this comment
- Where are all of the folks who become outraged when anybody tries to make English the official language of the United States, or who claim that the U.S. should accept illegal immigration, period?
I would think that they would be all over this story as yet another example of racism on the part of the gringos... - Reply to this comment

Quiet you liberal! Illegal aliens mow our lawns, pick our fruit, and pilot space shuttles for cheap wages! I say that outweighs your meaningless concerns.
Moron, its the "neoconservatives" that are anti-immigrant, and Bush who cut off spending more money to erect the wall...stop blamimg everything on the liberals. Obviously, neocons lost the election by a landslide. You should be on your knees thanking Sarah Palin for a wonderful job of idiocy she did. - Reply to this comment
- So...if this guy didnt know what he did was illegal in this country, why did he lie and tell the police that she was a runaway? I suppose you could say he is just plain stupid, and the fact that he went to the police in the first place, knowing he is an illegal alien, bears that out.

- So the rule here must be, that if we don`t understand someone`s native culture and traditions, we arrest them and throw them in jail?

No the rule here must be that if you want to be here, come legally and follow the laws or accept the punishment as everyone else. Why should this guy be treated any differently, or better than we are? Should he be allowed more freedom than the tax payers of this country? No way! - Reply to this comment
- The reporter got all the way to the last paragraph before mentioning that this guy is here illegally. I also liked the repeated use of "indigenous Mexican" to describe him. Why is the reporter choosing to dance around the fact that this guy does not belong here? Call him what he is, an illegal alien.

- But if the ones who are breaking the same kinds of laws on a regular basis are just plain American throw-back LDS''ers, then round them all up and terrorize their kids. Where is the justice? I''m not saying what happened in TX was right, just that they were treated one way and these immigrants are being treated another. They were just as "tribal" as these people, but there was no understanding for them in the beginning. This is crazy!!!!!!!

- Look, you let these people in and you know they are not like us so now you have to deal with enforcing the law that was intended for people like us.
You have opened a can of worms and now you are going to reep what you have sown! - Reply to this comment
