If this same teacher had been talking about "BLIND" people, the best way to get the message across would have been to ''''Blindfold'''' students and ask them to walk about the room (escorted). This is a cheap shot by activist and the purest B.S. there is.

I agree with you. Actually, we did this blindfold experiment when I was in grade school, ToolMangler. And it has always stayed with me, in a positive manner! It also helped to teach me the meaning of empathy, to try to place myself in someone else''s shoes.

There are so many lessons that could be gleaned from this teacher''s actions. Unfortunately, too many people are inclined to view this incident in a negative manner! Why not a positive relection so that this is never allowed to happen to anyone ever again regardless of their race, religion, or creed?

What the teacher did was wrong because in my opinion it is child abuse. She never should have tied up the 2 girls and made them go under the desk. I don''t care about the color of their skin. If they volunteered or not - this should not be allowed. None of us know what these 2 girls have been through in their short lives and what type of memories this could have brought back.

And now onto the race issue. Why does there have to be a race issue? Why african-american, mexican-american, asian-american and so on? Why are we not all AMERICANs? Mothers and fathers and even the school systems can teach their children about the different cultures while we are all Americans. In reality - what does the color of ones skin has to do with anything? We should all be smart enough to look past that and to see the person for who they are on the inside and not for what they look like on the outside.

The students complain about classes being boring, then when a teacher in an attempt to jazz it up they scream and cry racism, next they will be complaining about something else and mom and dad will come running. I know kids who participate in these kind of classroom reenactments that thought it was a real learning experience and said they learned more from it than just reading about it. Nothing but more poor poor me garbage.

It is certainly not easy to be a teacher anymore. The parents are always complaining about something. Most of the time, the parents are totally off base. The bottom line is they don''t want their darlings to ever be held accountable, be disappointed or disciplined. Some parents want the teacher to email them about their child''s day on a daily basis. They have no idea what it takes to be an excellent teacher. The time for preparation and teaching the lessons as well as being responsible for every other thing that comes up during the day doesn''t leave time for reflextive correspondence on every child every day. These parents don''t care about that because they only care about their own children.

I am a white woman who is a great champion of miniorities. That being said, there are kids who will try to play the race card with their parents to try to shift the responsiblity for their own failings to their white teacher.

Obviously tying up two kids to make a point was a bad choice and won''t be done again. The mother needs to know she made her point and send her daughter back to school for an education.

Silly teacher tie up the white kids.. They can''t cry out about anything.Don''t give a kid of color any reason to make the news.Don''t matter what the reason they have to bring in race. Disgusting they can''t shut up to this day and get on with life and not use color as a feel sorry for me card...

LET ME ADD ONE ONE MORE THING....MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW IS A WONDERFUL MATH TEACHER,,,,SHE WAS ASKED TO REPLACE THE MAN IN THE 8TH GRADE WHO MOLESTED GIRLS IN ANOTHER SCHOOL......THERE ARE SOME BLACK BOYS AND GIRLS WHO TELL HER THEY DON''T LIKE WHITE PEOPLE AND THEY SIT THERE AND MAKE FUN OF HER. WHAT A SHAME FOR A WELL EDUCATED TEACHER WHO WANTS TO HELP THESE CHILDREN NOT BE ABLE TO. SHE CALLED THE PARENTS AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD TRY AND DO SOMETHING....ONE GIRL PUT A NOTE ON HER DESK AND THANKED HER FOR BEING THERE AND WANTING TO TEACH THEM........
GOD BLESS ALL THE EDUCATORS WHO REALLY DO CARE FOR OUR CHILDREN....

I personally think it is time to get over all the slavery and problems we went through years ago. Teaching from the textbooks is one thing, but to go on and on has got to stop.
Let''s face reality, there will always be racism, ie,
blacks, jews, hispanic, whites, etc. and we have to teach our children and grandchildren not to be that way. Hate is horrible and our world is so full of it.
Let''s let the healing begin and get on with the lives of these children and let them enjoy some of things we never enjoyed because of segaration when we were coming up.
