Guns defend from what? They should have become extinct with covered wagons in the old west. They have no use in civilized societies.

Yea, guns are bad.... That must be why the first thing most dictators do when they take power is to confiscate them. Your coment just shows a lack of understanding of the history of this country.

This artcle states that...
"The 15-year-old boy who was supervising Christopher with the Uzi will not be charged, Bennett said..."

All I can say is "wow".

I grew up around guns and I never ONCE touched any of them without supervision. Rule number 1, ALWAYS treat guns as if they are loaded and ready to shoot, which means be careful, not stupid. Having guns in your home with children around does not automatically mean that those children will attempt to play with them. Any responsible parent or adult knows that and they teach kids proper gun safety and responsibility. Why the father thought that letting his 8 year old handle a fully automatic uzi was a good idea is beyond me. He should have known the recoil in and of itself is hard for an adult to handle, let alone a small child. But, this will just give the nazi''s who want to "crack down" on gun control another story to tell to try and abolish the 2nd amendment.

How many accidental dischages and lost weapons have happened the the presidental Secret service detail both at the white house and away? Guns are only as safe as the human operator who will always make mistakes ( they are human) It does not mean guns are dangerous. Guns are made to kill in defense period

[You can''''t secure your guns, which are deadly weapons, in the same fashion you secure your toaster eventhough, in the homes of many gun owners, the toasters are more secured than the guns!~]
[Posted by truthrocks at 03:51 PM : Dec 04, 2008]

so when they steal my toaster and throw it into the shower and kill someone ... i''m guilty of murder w/ a toaster?

... 20 years mandatory is appropriate?

total nonsense.

I GREW UP IN WESTFIELD AND LIVED THERE TILL A FEW YRS AGO AND HAVE BEEN TO THE SPORTSMENS CLUB MANY TIMES AT THAT TIME IF YOU WERE UNDER 18 YOU NEEDED ADULT SUPERVISON TO HANDLE ANY WEAPON & A PERMIT OR AUTOMATIC WEAPONS BUT I GUESS BEING 8 AND HAVING A YANKEE VERSION OF A REDNECK FOR A FATHER MAKES EVERYTHING ALRIGHT

this is an accident and obviously unintentional..i dont know about criminal charges but whoever did this is liable in civil courts...SUE HIS PANTS OFF but I doubt if the person''s main intention was to kill people during the fair..

"The father was not charged because he was a layman and based his decision on information from others who should have known it was too dangerous, Bennett said."...How idiotic!!! You mean to tell me that an ADULT didn''t know that type of gun could be dangerous to an 8 yo. LOL.

yeswedid: you are correct. This is exceedingly poor judgment from everyone involved - the cops, the father, the 15-year old spotter and whoever else was standing there watching the 8-year old fire this gun. The charges that have been filed are appropriate in so many ways. It is unfathomable to me how anyone here on this blog or elswhere for that matter could believe that this is not a strong case for negligence. To me, it is glaringly clear. I hope they all fry!

Why not indict the dad too? He was standing next to his kid when he shot himself.

[I suggest mandatory 20 year prison terms without parole for gun owners who allow their weapons to be stolen. What say you "responsible" gun owners? Ready to put your money where your mouth is?]
[Posted by jumkey at 03:20 PM : Dec 04, 2008]

this is a totally absurd proposal. what does it mean when you say ''allow their guns to be stolen''? what is inferred by the gun being stolen? is it being used in a crime? how would anyone know the gun was stolen?

the law of unintended consequences will be that everyone who chooses to own a gun will want to own a stolen gun ... so if it''s stolen it wont tie back to them.

how about the same for those who are involved in a major injury car accident (at fault)?

or how about this for any parent who doesn''t protect their child from toxic materials in the household?

Regardless it''''s about time we started prosecuting these gun nuts for their irresponsible behavior. I suggest mandatory 20 year prison terms without parole for gun owners who allow their weapons to be stolen. What say you "responsible" gun owners? Ready to put your money where your mouth is?

I will agree as soon as we put and keep ALL thieves in prison where they belong.

From the above article, ''Thomas Drechsler, an attorney for the club, said it continues to extend its "deepest sympathy" to the Bizilj family, but denies any wrongdoing. He said neither the club nor any member gave the Uzi to Christopher or any children, and weren''t in the immediate area when the accident happened.''
_____________

So the 8-year-old boy just walked up to the Uzi, picked it up, and pulled the trigger? The weapon was left on a bench locked and loaded and unattended? The 15-year-old boy ''supervisor'', available ''adult'' supervisors, and others couldn''t or didn''t attempt to stop him?

Please don''t get me wrong I AM NOT for gun control. I AM NOT NRA. I am FOR

To think, all of these loaded firearms sitting around American households, locked and loaded, and completely unlocked.

Yet heart disease, suicide, and drunk driving accidents still kill more people each year than homicides or accidental shootings.

Once you get over the shock factor and take a look at the facts, it''s not too scary. What''s scary is what we aren''t focusing on.
