Other than the police and the military, no one needs a gun in a civilized society. Posted by excoachken at 04:57 PM

The only problem is that we aren''t in a civilized society.

There are many forms of self-defense where the human mind and/or body could get the gun out of an idiot''''s hands before they could even think of pulling the trigger. Posted by yeswedid at 04:49 PM

An idiots hands yes. A marine''s hands NO!

Anyone who feels the need to carry a gun, is a pu$$y.

Sadly for the young man, a Darwin award. Better supervision in a dangerous situation, and we would not be here. An 8 year old with an uzi?

Most researchers call that "selective blindness". That''''s a very dangerous and erroneous preception. Then he said "I keep them to protect my home and family." Really? That must be a magic trick since guns at home increase their chances of death!~ Posted by truthrocks at 04:23 PM

It is only blindness if you haven''t taught those that are in contact with the guns. What about knives? They kill people too. Should I take all of those out of my home? There is no magic trick associated with guns. Just training and common sense. Sad that you can''t see the good in guns as well as the bad.

Wow, I don''t even know what to say to that. You deserve whatever you get...A lot of good people gave their lives to protect your right to express your opinion and to live and prosper in a free society. Hopefully your children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy the same right...No thanks to you.

I sure as hell hope that the family doesn''''t decide to sue sue sue down the road for their own complete idiocy.

He might have a lawsuit since he was "advised" by the supposed experts. It may not matter if he''s stupid.

Displeased said "Yes, instead of screaming meaningless numbers and stats,"

Instead of saying gun violence stats are meaningless in a gun violence discussion prove it!~ I beg to differ. I say you don''''t want the stats because they sink your claims. Stats ROCK!~

I can''t speak for everybody else but stats mean nothing to me. I read stats about auto accidents yet I still drive my auto. I don''t believe gun stats are totally accurate anyway.

Man, it would be interesting to see what would happen with some of these that feel "no guns" is the way to go. It would be interesting to see their reaction if heaven forbid something were to happen to their child or loved one. I for one, would end up in jail if someone did something to my daughter b/c you can be sure, I would make sure the **** paid dearly.

We are way too lenient on these criminals and the mercy we show is amazing considering they show no mercy to their victims. Personally I think we should all carry and defend ourselves, then we might start to see a change in the ruthlessness of society.

What I want to know is when is the father going to be charged? What parent in their right mind would allow their 8 year old to be handling let alone firing a machine gun? While I am a parent of 2 kids and I can''t imagine the pain this father is going through, I sure as hell hope that the family doesn''t decide to sue sue sue down the road for their own complete idiocy.

No, my ''''coment'''' shows that I believe anything can be resolved without the use of weaponry.

So you are saying that when we broke ties with England, rather than fighting, what we should have really done is just sat down and talked about it?... Or when Hitler was killing millions of Jews, we should have just given him a stern talking to?

[Toasters are NOT weapons designed to kill people nor they are used to kill 30,000 Americans per year, injure 100,000 more, and commit 1.7 million crimes. Therefore, you can''''t secure your guns in the same way you secure your toaster.]
[Posted by truthrocks at 04:10 PM : Dec 04, 2008]

the guns are shooting on their own? the ''guns'' commit the murders?

anything can be used as a weapon ... it''s detriment is guaged by it''s application ... not by it''s existence.

I do think this is a case of negligence, but not a call for more gun control! Thats retarded.

Agreed. Negligence it the problem. You should hold the people responsible for the way they ran the event and the precautions they should have taken to ensure the safety of the participants.
We do not want to make this a reason to increase gun control because that would not benefit society as a whole.

I completely agree with your post. Parents need to take responsibility to teach their children. I have several guns in my home and my child understands and respects what they can do. I keep them to protect my home and family. She doesn''t even ask if they are loaded. Loaded or not, they are not to be touched. The other thing, why wasn''t this father smart enough to know what an uzi can do? What an idiot!

The boy should never have had a gun in his hand. That said, I think it is our RIGHT to bare arms and those rights should be protected. As a society, we have given many rights away and as far as I see it, taking our gun rights away only makes the criminals more powerful because they certainly aren''t going to give them up. Lets face it, the ones shooting people are the ones that don''t go through the proper channels to own them.
As far as this little boy is concerned, the father is the one that should be indicted as he''s the one responsible for his child.
